I'm talking last year, before his injury. He had his 50 goal season in 11-12, then followed it up with a pretty lackluster shooting performance last year.
His career average shooting % is 12.6. The year he had 50, it was at 14.7. Last year, it was at 9.1.
He was on pace for 262 shots last year, and while that's above average for his career, he was on pace was 77 less shots than he had when he scored 50. This year, he's on pace for 216, which will be his 2nd lowest total in his career (he had 182 in his injury-shortened 10-11 season). He's healthy this year. There should be no reason for him not to shoot more.
When he shoots the puck more, he scores. He hasn't been shooting the puck, relative to his career averages.
I'm not comparing him to anyone but himself. He has a great shot. He's not using it. He's passing up clear opportunities to shoot and either passing it to someone who doesn't have an angle or turning it over. I just want to see him use what he has.
