Yeah, they play a pretty defensive game.

They are a -20 in GF/GA...time to change it up!

I imagine they'll open things up a little more when their third and fourth goalie aren't dressed for every game. But, I agree just the same...

no name wrote:I havn't followed the Skinner Sutter Staal debate to much but i think anyone who thinks Carolina would of made Skinner availible in a trade is nuts. Carolina was trying to get better with this trade and keep their core in place by adding Staal to it. Now i am sure Shero would of taken Skinner if he was availible but he clearly was not.

Shero did great concidering the circumstances he was in but if we could of made a deal with any team i think the return for Staal would of been alot better than what we got, esp. the nhl ready talent we got back.

Naslund for Stoyanoff. Hull and Bozek for Ramage and Wamsley. Neely and a no.1 for Pederson. Marcel Dionne for Dan Maloney. I guuess these G.M.s were nuts also. Every big trade these days involves giving up a roster player, top prospect and a high draft choice. To say that teams never give up guys like Skinner is "nuts."

Shero had minimal bargaining power. Staal wanted to be with his bro. Everyone knew that. Rutherford was a professional by not holding Shero over the barrel.

Getting Skinner without bargaining power wasn't practical.

Maybe the Rangers will get Skinner when they trade Marc Staal to Carolina.

Yea but Skinner was a 7th overall pick. Marc Staal was a 12th overall pick. The Rangers will need to offer at least 5 more people to make up the difference in draft spots.

No, no, no, the Rangers traded down to get Staal. So therefore if you triangulate that value over twice the diameter juxtaposed to the league climate, all the Rangers would need is to add one assistant coach and three donkeys to facilitate an even trade.

Source: Naslund for Stojanov. Where we traded one player for one donkey.

What would've been really nice was getting Stamkos for Staal. I wonder if he was available?

All I said was that it would have been nice to get Skinner. You and others made a big deal about it, and I merely said that it showed that Staal wasn't as valued as others on the board said he was.

It also would have been nice to get Brenden Dillon for Dustin Jeffrey. Jeffrey was a sixth round pick and Dillon was undrafted...I guess Jeffrey wasn't as valuable as some others thought he was...many thought he could fetch at least a Mark Letestu-like return, but as we saw, he couldn't even net an undrafted player.

But yeah, you're right, it would have been nice to get another club's best young player in exchange for our free agent to be...that is true. Back on earth, it didn't happen that way AND we still did very well with the trade despite not necessarily eviscerating a franchise...

I don't know who Gus Fieri is or what his double D's have to do with this...

if you accept the premise that trading staal was the correct move, it's very difficult to argue that we got a bad return for him...and i don't even like sutter that much.

Yeah, they play a pretty defensive game.

Goals for 43, goals against 63. Only 4 players over 0 +/-.

No one said they play a good defensive game, only that they play one. And those numbers don't mean anything. Edmonton plays a pretty offensive game. Goals for 63, goals against 83. See how that doesn't mean anything?

Game is played on ice. I didn't say they were necessarily good at it...I just said what they do. Adjustments took place when substandard goaltender(s) came in to relieve injured players. They have been better defensively in recent games.
