Top 6 Winger Acquisition Thread

Postby Mad City Mike on Fri Dec 27, 2013 3:22 pm

The injury to Dupuis is probably going to require the trade of a D prospect for a winger. There certainly isn't anybody in the organization capable to playing the role. No, I do not count Beau Brittle because he can't be counted on. When you look at the roster and the current option is Vitale or Adams, or you can recall Gibbons or Z, you know something has to be done and quick. They are going to have to pony up and trade a guy like Despres or Harrington. Maybe even Pouliot. Despres seems the most likely because they are flush with offensive type guys.

I'm not really sure who's out there, but I would look at a team like Edmonton that needs D and has lots of good young wingers. I don't want a rental, either. I want a Neal-like guy who's going to be around awhile. Too bad Nieuwendyk isn't still in Dallas. We could probably trade Engelland for Benn .

So let's hear your reasonable trade ideas. I'll start with Despres plus a pick for Eberle.

For Jordan Eberle?

Guess it's a 1st round pick this year. And maybe out second as well. Hell, maybe another player too.

Okay, so I'm underestimating Eberle. Scratch that. How about Perron? Little older guy and a concussion risk, but I wonder if he'd be available.

How do you fit a 6 mil salary (Eberle) under the cap this year? It isn't happening by trading draft picks and prospects.

My question is how do you even get Jordan Eberle? Dude is a hell of a winger.

Remember cap space will probably be used for a veteran back up as well. I like Zatkoff but I'm not 100% sold on him if Fleury goes down in the playoffs. That is also if Vokoun does not return which almost seems likley to be happening.

He would likely be the one Oiler forward who is unavailable. Personally I like somebody else's suggestion of Despres for Alex Chiasson from the Stars.

I dont think they get a backup. With vokoun out they are pretty much going all in on fleury in the playoffs. Sending an nhl lineup out is more important than getting an alternative at G. At least thats what id think.

I can agree with that but the second Fleury goes down and if Zatkoff craps his pants you know what will happen. I'm sure the Pens will as well.

I believe Glencross is injury prone this season. think he's been out twice already.
edit: I just looked it up: out 8 weeks with a high ankle sprain. no thanks. next!

It would tell everyone everything they needed to know about what the Pens think of Fleury if they went out and got another backup. He's already set up to be the fall guy if they don't meet expectations this year, so I actually think Fleury or bust is fine with management.

Letang isn't being traded. You guys need to give up on that.

Alex Chaisson or Charlie Coyle.

Spoiler:
Or T.J. Oshie...but that's not realistic...well I guess Coyle isn't either...but I digress...

I'd also want to acquire Kulemin to add to second/third line depth. Yeah, go ahead and hate on Kulemin all you want. He's a solid two-way winger.

Cammaleri from Calgary would be great. Can't we put depuis on LTIR and save his cap hit? Shero will make a move or two. Despres package for cammy I could see...

Cammy's a center. we have more than enough of those. if we're going to get anybody it needs to be a winger.

If you're going to go after a winger on Toronto, go after JVR. Don't waste time on Kulemin.
