Dan Bylsma Approval rating (1st half)

Postby count2infinity on Sun Dec 29, 2013 10:01 pm

At the beginning of the season and at the 1/4 of the season mark I had posted similar threads, as I was curious if all the "FIRE DB!" people were the majority or just a vocal minority. DB's approval rating by LGP toward the beginning of the season was 67%. At the quarter mark it was 34%.

So I ask the question again now at the half way mark of the season...

I'm not a DB supporter by any means, but if there's one time that I want DB coaching this team, it's during major injuries. This is when he seems to be at his best. My hat is off to him once again during this time.

It's when this team is healthy and in the playoffs where I never want to see him behind the bench. Hopefully this year we buck the trend once we're healthy.

Like I said a few weeks back Bylsma won me over and I support him now no matter what. Count me in as an "approve"

Again, it's not about the regular season, it's about the playoffs.

If nothing else, this poll might prove, that just as it goes with the Steelers, Penguins fans are a very unstable bunch.

This. plus, having a player like Crosby makes it possible to win every night. its the playoffs that count.

Playoffs are what count, but for right now if you had a vote for the Jack Adams award who gets it?

Roy was the early candidate. Jon Cooper has done a good job in Tampa. Maybe Bruce out in Anaheim, but I think Dan Bylsma is at the top of this list.

He's doing a great job. Hopefully his brain doesn't leak out of his ears in the playoffs like it has the past 3 seasons.

:thumb: Have to agree with this. The regular season just doesn't mean anything as long as they make the playoffs. For me, it's the Cup or nothing. :!:

It just occurred to me that maybe the playoffs are a little more important than the regular season. Not sure if people are aware of it.

HCDB has his faults, but anyone disapproving of the job he's done so far this season just has an axe to grind. Period.

This has been Bylsma's best season as a coach so far IMO, so I voted "approve." However, the post season is all that matters with this team, as it's built for championships and the window to win is now. I also think Jacques Martin has made a difference. It's a more disciplined team, and hopefully that continues. I still say the presence of Scuderi will pay off big time in the playoffs. He's a quiet leader who gets the job done and is never rattled. If anyone can be the ideal partner for Letang, it's him, and if the better defensive system does not aid MAF in the playoffs, then perhaps only a change of scenery can. There's a lot on the line this post season, I think, for both Bylsma and MAF.

I approve thus far and I've been a pretty harsh critic of DB. Time will tell though. Despite a strong record the Penguins have had a very up and down season, IMO. They have a new dedication to structure and possession and star power has kicked into gear when the dedication fails.

The Pens have fared well against the top teams in the West and most of the playoff-bound teams in the East aside from the Bruins. I'd say overall while I still think the Pens are finding their way and adjusting to this system things are on the right track.

The playoffs should define Bylsma. To me he's the Bill Cowher of the NHL. Good/Great regular season; failure in playoffs vs inferior opponents.
Does regular season mean jacksh*t? I want to see the cup not the presidents trophy.

Yes he did and credit to him. He also has a talented lineup that's failed ever since. If he gets credit for the cup he gets blame for the playoff shame since. No way of proving what a different coach would have done. I view him as a very good regular season coach whose teams underachieve in the playoffs. If I'm wrong his teams playoff results should improve based on team talent; should they not?

Anyone who says DB is coaching poorly this season is an idiot. So many injuries and suspensions and we're still first in the East.

But my reservation with him, as well with Fleury, rests in the postseason.
