I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or if you're being serious but neither one of those players had "good" seasons their first years here. That is why Shero gave both of them the option of leaving or staying. Michalek went back to Phoneix and Martin decided to stay.

I thought Martin's down year was his second season here.

Yeah. Martin and Michalek weren't bad the first season, but they were terrible in the second. It may have had something to do with the latter dragging them both down, but no way around it, they were a disaster in year 2.

Quick update:

After taking the first 2 at home, Portland has lost the last 2 to Edmonton, who is now 10-0 at home in these playoffs. Tristan Jarry stopped 35 of 37 in game 3, earning the game's #1 star. He followed that up with a shutout in game 4 (26 saves). It was the first time in 247 games that Portland had been shutout. Pouliot has 3 assists in the series so far.

It's not unreasonable to think we have the best goalie and the best defenseman in the WHL. It's not overwhelmingly so, but there's a fair case for it. I've always wanted us to draft more from the WHL, I hope this has the Pens looking there more often going forward. Lots of gems can be had in this league, good smart, hard players.

Well yes but you see...Shero must be fired because we lost two games to the Blue Jackets...or because we don't win the cup every year of our existence...

Pouliot becomes the first WHL d-man to eclipse 30 points in the playoffs since 1999, going 1+2 in Portland's 6-5 comeback OT win. Game 7 is tonight.

I doubt you'll be able to find any feeds of Shaw directTV from Canada, but there's always a possibility somebody somewhere online will put it up.

He isn't a serious contender to make the roster next year is he??? His numbers are outstanding still seems undersized and could us some defensive coaching. But damn those numbers!!!!!!! I remember him in the pens Black vs white game he skates as fluiently as Letang.

Well he's easily the best PP QB in the organization, which is obviously a need. He's not undersized, but could still build up some more strength, if that makes sense. Ideally, he spends some quality time with Hynes in WBS before coming up, but role-necessity might dicate him playing sooner.

I'd sure as heck trust a player of his ilk in the hands of Hynes' staff than the current regime when it comes to developing the defensive side of his game though (though I'm well aware that regime might not still be in place by the time he's ready).

I mean he's arguably more complete than Maatta was at this point last year, right?

Pouliot: Offensively he's better. Defensively he's worse. Skating he's better. Strength he's worse. More complete? No. Maatta can process the pro game a little faster...
