Letang Suffers Minor Stroke

Postby pens_CT on Sun Feb 02, 2014 11:31 am

No official word from the Pens other than he is ill. If it was the flu or migraine issues, or ? you think the team would give out that information, its not the same as giving out injury details which the opposition could use to their advantage. Reports of those who follow the team indicate that nothing appears wrong with Letang. So is this Bylsma's approach to benching him, are they preparing for a trade, or is Letang just "dying alive". Another strange story, in a strange year for the supposed #1 defenseman of your Pittsburgh Penguins.

Why would we give a flip what exactly the illness is?

You are not interested why he has missed the last two games? Would it be so hard for the organization to announce he has the flu? If that's all it is.

Hopefully it continues (if it's nothing serious, id be happy if letang had a bad case of the sniffles for awhile)

Why would they announce if he had the flu? They said he is sick... isn't that enough? Injury reports are always vague. Upper body, lower body etc. This is nothing new.

Sheesh.

You'd have to think that if he indeed had a flu-bug that was bad enough to force him to miss two games, they might not want him around the team as to prevent others from getting the same bug.

When the reporters are noting that he seems fine and is interacting with the moms and such, it makes you think that it indeed might be something else. Who knows, maybe it's the elbow again and they don't want to reveal it? Maybe he tweaked his groin? Maybe he actually is a healthy scratch and DB in his respectful ways won't call it that.....which I highly doubt he was, especially on the Mother's trip.

He'll be back next game and they'll smile and nod.

Normally with a player who has the flu, they miss one game at most. There was 2 days between games and he still was ill? To top it off, when they showed him in the box on Thursday, he was laughing with the Moms. It is just strange, I agree with the OP.

That is actually kind of where I was going to go. Definitely something that would prevent you from skating in a game and not something that most people really want to talk about.

If it was any other player I wouldn't give it a second thought. However something hasn't been right since the beginning of the season. I get the fact he started the year injured and all, but most of his mistakes have been mental not physical ones. Historically he has been prone to making poor decisions on the ice, but this year the shear number of those mistakes has been much greater and are inexcusable for a player of his talent level and experience. He plays like a guy who doesn't want to be here, or one whose level of play will decline after signing a big contract.

Wait a minute he has been "ill" since the moms have been on the trip. maybe they are using him for more than a hockey player...if you know what I mean? Pizza with anchovies anyone?

I'd never heard of this before and had to look it up. I was thinking it might be suffering from proto-Nietzschean delusions of making oneself into an ubermensch, which I thought might fit for Letang.

On the original topic, I really enjoy the conspiracy angle on his illness without believing it one bit.

I realize you are speculating, but a guy with an undisclosed illness and a history of serious migraines might not need to be questioned. He is definitely not 'benched'. That just isn't going to happen.

Wonderful reference.

I also don't know why the OP would get grief. Letang clearly isn't "ill". While it may be nothing and in hockey they always lie about pretty much every injury it's not shocking. But worthy of discussion. He is out for some reason we do not know.

Ill meaning sick. Because you don't put sick players in the locker room, buses and other travel and have them hang out with players families. I'm no genius and I know people think HCDB is dense but that's not happening.

I don't want to get into semantics of words, my only point is its worth discussion on what's going in.
