Martin Brodeur "A VERY STRONG POSSIBLY" (Eklund)

Postby Bioshock on Sun Feb 02, 2014 1:38 pm

:face:

I thought i would make the most ridiculous topic of the day for Superbowl Sunday.

And this is indeed real. Eklund really posted this. Here! Look! It's REAL!

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Eklund/M ... ne/1/57688

Have you ever seen a rumor with less of a brainwave? Not sure i have.

And I'll add this to the topic: Which is more likely to happen than Martin Brodeur joining the Penguins?

I doesn't seem that ridiculous, tbh.

There are far greater needs than backup goalie.

I don't really get why you think this is so crazy that you wrote what you did. Looking for a experienced backup would hardly be surprising. Brodeur agreed that trading him may be the best course for NJ. I don't think it would happen and it's no more credible than any other Eklund rumor, but you're a bit overboard here.

Let's break that down:

Hearing Marty Brodeur talks are getting extremely interesting.

I'm sure he hasn't heard anything.

The Penguins are a very strong possibility, and a few other teams like the Wild and Capitals are interested.

That's certainly possible; along with a 1/2 dozen other teams.

Brodeur has gone out of his way, more than once, to state that he would be open to being moved this season. Acquisition cost would probably be prohibitive for me to want Pens to consider it, not to mention cap hit.

Aside from legacy, would be a good move for Lou to get an asset if Marty is unopposed.

btw, if he were to traded, I'm sure Marty would pick the team and Lou would then work out a deal.

It's not that ridiculous. He would probably be great to have for Fleurys development, to have him on the bench going into the playoffs.

Fleurys development? That's an interesting angle. First, that a guy in his 10th year is still in need of mentorship, and second that bringing in a HOF goalie to sit behind him going into the playoffs would somehow improve his confidence. If he really is frail enough that he needs that kind of hand holding it probably shouldn't be from his backup who ultimately takes the job from him around Game Three of Round One.

1. If Marty is going to agree to a trade I would have to guess he is going to want to have one last shot at a Cup as a starting goalie.

2. Bringing in a vetern as a insurance policy against Fleury will do nothing good for Fleurys mental state.

3. Hope this is the only move Ray plans to make since his 4.5 millions against the cap might not allow us to acquire anyone else.

4. I don't think we would be willing to give up much to get him in here when you concider the 6 other teams that could use him a lot more than us.

5. We are not even sure if Tommy V won't be ready by the playoffs roll around. If he gets a conditioning stint in WBS I am fine going into the playoffs with him backing up Fleury.

If pens make a move for a backup goalie, then why go into this year with Fleury and not work out something for Miller or someone else?

It's not like Flower is struggling right now. We need forward help on multiple lines way before a goalie.

If Flower flops again, you trade or buy him out.

That's a steal. Wonder if San Jose would do it.

That aside, I doubt Marty would return a large value on the market.

This

If RS is going to make any trade for a big dollar guy it is NOT going to be a goaltending rental.

Unless he moves someone with a big cap hit, like Paul Martin, in exchange for forward help.
