The Save.

Postby marek on Tue Feb 04, 2014 1:49 am

Was that the end of any doubt that he's back... Save of the year... Just a product of Scuderi taking away the shot from the left... Blind luck???

Thoughts???

It was #2 on sportscenter...

I'd say it was luck if it was shot right in his glove, but he made a read on the puck and moved his arm accordingly. Still pretty lucky, but not ALL luck. Maybe the best save I have ever seen.

Sporting News Article about the Save

Anderson on his response during the game: "Come on, boys. Get another one like that and for sure it's going in. You can't make two like that in one night."

He wouldn't have had to flail around like that if he had just covered all his angles.

While more athletic than Pietrangelo's, Fleury won't displace "The Save" with this regular season one.

Incredible save and I have been immensely pleased with him this year after screaming for his blood last year. Now....if he can just stop knocking pucks into his own net, flopping around and bumbling the puck and being a headcase...all in the playoffs...I will be a happy man.

Sure, stuff happened after Marc-Andre Fleury's save Monday night.

For one, the Pittsburgh Penguins got away with one of the least legal, most terrible line changes you'll ever see.

ummmmm....how exactly did the Pens "get away" with it if we were penalized for Too Many Men?

There was one point where the Pens had like 7 guys on the ice, I remember Errey pointing it out and they didn't get called for it. I think it happened right after the save, but I could be remembering wrong.

I remember that too but then a few seconds later the officials DID call it and Jokinen sat the bench minor for Too Many Men.

Most saves like that are about 99% luck. This one is a bit different. The extension displays incredible athleticism and the hand/eye coordination shows his skill. Luck was involved for sure, it always does in saves like this, but this was one amazing save.

Best ever? Probably not. The real "The Save", while almost all luck, is probably still the best Pens save ever given it's occurrence in a playoff game.

Paul MacLean, Senators coach: I saw our goalie make a bunch of saves, too. Goalies make saves.

F#%k Ottawa. From the top of their organization to the bottom, they are a big bunch of whiners. How many interference calls did they get away with last night? If the Pens would have had all the power plays they should have had, the game could have been like 6-1. Aside from EK, the Sens are a slow team going nowhere fast.

As for the save, maybe the best ever. Pietrangelo's save was more important, obviously, as the team won the Cup that year. But this one was more athletic, and MAF looked the puck all the way into his glove, so it wasn't "luck" either. Flat out, that save won the game. Hopefully we're talking about this in June as the turning point when Flower re-gained his full confidence and dominance.

Agree PFDC

In slow motion you can see Fleurys vision move over to Karelson, then he slides over to the other post, then the glove was at a lower level then he raises it at full are extension. He watched it all the way into the glove. I think it was alot more skill than luck getting, no earning that save.

I wonder if Melnyk will open an investigation into whether Karlsson was robbed by Fleury? :pop:

The best save in Pens' history is Sebastian Caron against the Flyers.
