So, it's not a completely crazy idea.

This is completely reasonable. They have Malkin and Crosby, and much like playing a back-up goalie, they could use the two of them as a means to getting alternate games off here and there. It's not like the Pens haven't had to play without one of them before and won.

Aside from the fact that you don't healthy scratch Crosby, the Pens are hard up for forwards (especially ones that cam provide offense) as is. You definitely don't healthy scratch the best player in the game in this situation.

Maybe just don't play them 20-24 minutes a night?

This. A day off, maybe not. Are they relying on their top 6 way too much? Definitely.

It has crossed my mind that Sid might be playing through an injury, but then, when I see him streaking down the sideboards or crashing the net, I think, no, that doesn’t look like an injured player. It seems strange to even be talking about this, given that he still sits atop the league with an eleven-point lead on the nearest competition, but the truth is he hasn’t been the consistent player that we are used to seeing. He started the season like a bat out of hell (unusual for him), cooled off, then experienced a resurgence followed by another slow down. He’s due for another rebound, although February hasn’t started off with a bang. Considering the big minutes he’s playing and in a compressed schedule to boot, fatigue certainly could be a factor. It seems he can push himself for only so long and then needs extended periods to refuel. This is hardly surprising; the man isn’t a machine, after all. I just hope he has enough in the tank for the Olympics.

You only rest SId if that what he feels he needs. But a young guy like him there really is no need to rest him on a game day. Giv him a few practices off if that was the case.

Cut back on his ice time even if he only played Power play time he is a bigger asset than resting off the ice.

With the exception of a shift or two, he was totally gassed in the third last night. I don't think you ever give a player of his capability and age the night off, but I'd cut back on the minutes and roll 4.

Didn't he take a shot off his foot or something 2-3 weeks ago? Something hobbled him and I don't think he's looked 100% since then.

I realize that many of you will think I'm crazy but Sid needs to play more selfish. He is too willing to give up the puck.
He needs to play more like Marchand or Jagr. He is so skilled and so great that he needs tohog the puck more. Plus DB needs to place a "monster" on his line that will dig pucks out from the boards and feed roaming in front. Chara will completely nuetralize Crosby behind the nets and in the corners.

Yes, he did, on January 7th. When I was thinking he might be playing through an injury, this is the possible injury I had in mind. At the time, Sid sloughed it off as a “stinger,” but you never know.

When do we play Washington again? Maybe he should take that night off.

Vodka in the water bottles could present some issues by the 3rd period.

Well, this is definitely not the time to give Crosby a night off.

Niskanen and Kunitz don't appear to be on the ice for Penguins' game-day skate in Buffalo.

Bylsma says he hopes mislabel and kunitz will play tonight. No call-ups planned, he said.

AutoCorrect turned "Niskanen" into "mislabel" in a previous note. Bylsma hopes Niskanen and Kunitz will be able to play tonight.

Kunitz and Niskanen questionable tonight. Fleury to start.

M-A Fleury will start in goal. Kunitz and Niskanen are "hopefully maintenance," per #Pens coach Bylsma
