Kunitz-Crosby-St. Louis has the potential to produce magic. I hope if they pick St. Louis he plays with Crosby.

Most goals, but Neal has a higher goals/game average this season.

murphydump55 wrote:And also based on the fact that he's only one point back of the leading scorer in the above mentioned group.

Neal is scoring at a 1.2 PPG pace - higher than Giroux, Staal and St. Louis

murphydump55 wrote:Oh, and also based on the fact that he's continued his scoring pace even without his linemate who is probably the world's best goal scorer.

Who cares? If Neal goes, there is a good chance he's playing with Sid and Kunitz. If he doesn't and ends up on the 3rd or 4th line, then he's playing with another highly skilled player like Bergeron, Toews, Getzlaf.

No matter what side of the discussion you're on...stats like that, that are so close anyhow, just have no relevance at all...it's not like a guy could have 20 goals and another guy could have 23 and someone (involved with decisions like this) would bring that up during a discussion...no one gives a **** about stuff like that when picking a team of this caliber...

You evaluate the player and you evaluate the team and the team you want to build and you make your selection...some guy having four more assists in two less games is about as trivial as what jersey number he wears...

If they want to replace the game breaking shooting that Stamkos would have brought, no question they need Neal. There's prolly only 3-4 other players in the world with his release and goal scoring ability, and 2 of them play for Russia, and Stamkos is out.

If they want the best overall player, they take St. Louis.

If they want youth and a "diet" St. Louis, they take Giroux. If they feel they need size, they take Staal. Can't really go wrong here, all 4 players are great.

If i'm picking, i take St. Louis.

That's fine, but don't give me stats as reasons as to why he should be picked over Neal when Neal's stats are better.

Not solely based on stats, but also based on how I believe St. Louis will be extremely effective on the large ice surface. Also, his play making ability will elevate Crosby's goal scoring ability as well.

I'm a Neal fan but I truly believe St Louis is the best choice in this situation. As was said above, a line of 14-87-26 could be downright dangerous.

Plus could you imagine the pressure if they took Neal and played him with Crosby and Kunitz? The haters would be out in full force.

On an all star team, pure scorers/pp specialists aren't as valuable. I don't think Neal brings enough to the table outside of his goal scoring ability to earn a spot on this team.

If I've learned anything the past 3 weeks, it is you don't win unless Engelland is in your lineup.

I pick him.

As long as they keep Nash off of Crosby's line they will be fine.

I assume they will pick St. Louis, but I doubt he'd be paired with the first line, at least not right off the bat. There would be some line shuffling of what has been hypothesized thus far, which is fine.

But I think I'd take Neal as an "as-close-to-Stamkos" player as they have, plug him in with Sid and Kunitz and leave the rest of the lines alone.

If they were to take Neal, it would solely to be to create a "Penguins only" line. Those 3 did show some decent chemistry prior to the return of Malkin earlier this year.

That said, I largely agree with Froggy... I highly doubt he gets chosen.

Neal has a great shot but thats it. His skating, stick handling, vision and defensive game are average. Ill be amazed if it isnt St Louis

Why will people be so amazed if it isn't St Louis? You realize he was already left off a roster in which he should have been one of the first half of the forwards in, right?

It pains me to say this, but I would take Giroux over St. Louis.

I'm not going to think about this decision too much because I don't think Stevie Y can make a bad choice. The 4 or 5 guys in the discussion can fit-in somewhere on the roster without much of a hiccup.

I don't believe the Crosby/Giroux relationship will have anything to do with who gets selected. Sid had the same ongoing fued with Richards in the last one, and that didn't prevent them from being line mates for a bit, and celebrating together after winning gold.

If the selection were up to me, I'd go with St Louis. But I heard a caller yesterday make a good point on this discussion regarding Neal - when replacing Stamkos, why not replace him with a similar player? - in terms of a pure sniper...

It's going to be a very tough decision and I'm not sure what they will be basing it off of:

Marty St. Louis is a good choice because of his speed and ability to bury the puck.
Neal would make a good choice because of his ability to score and play some decent two-way hockey.
Girioux has an all-around solid game and can do a bit of everything....same with Staal.

I personally think that Marty is the best fit for euro hockey. They will need his speed.

Nope. Which is good news for Pens fans.

In fact, I really hope they stop sending NHL players to Olympics in the future. I hate the break and worry about injury/fatigue.
