Eddie O... which vet?

Postby djlm on Wed Feb 12, 2014 3:46 pm

Hey,

Reading this article: http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/ron- ... 1402120045 I became curious as to who was the veteran player that Eddie O "felt the need to call out a veteran, both in the hallway and in his office, after a game Nov. 27, 2005, in Tampa Bay."

Anyone have any links to article on possible Sid-hate from teammates in his rookie year?

I thought it was Recchi. Someone else may know better.

it's recchi, palffy or leclair.

if eddie o is partly responsible for palffy leaving the team, he can go rot. i loved some palffy.

I was hoping for LeClair as I don't care for him at all, but I like the Rug.

LeClair only got 13:51 minutes of ice time on 14 shifts and was -1.

Recchi had an A and was even, with 22 shifts and 18 minutes of TOI.

Palffy had 20 shifts and 20:35 of TOI.

I'd bet LeClair.

Could have been Recchi, was a bit outspoken that year about things Sid was doing like complaining to refs

This thread is missing the real story: Edzo wants to coach again.

related? Talks about the same time period, a few weeks prior to edzo's firing.

Quick question -- how was Edzo partly responsible for Palffy leaving (other than being a terrible coach)?

Recchi really seemed like a jaggoff to Crosby. I remember him saying how he never saw a player like Staal / Malkin since Mario when they first arrived lol... I took that as another undercover jab

His health issues aside, I always felt that Mario decided to leave when he realized that the team needed a massive overhaul as well as a taskmaster coach like MT. Why would he want to go through all of that at the end of his career?

Well I think it was pretty definitely just the health issues for Lemieux. But yeah a Therrien wouldn't work with Lemieux on the team. He tells them to do something and they just look over to Mario for approval. I'm sure with Edzo, they just looked over to Mario to begin with.

There were definitely rumors and reports of The Rugs hatred of Sid. Even rumors he was the reason the Flyers and Specifically Hatcher I think were "extra special" in their treatment of him.

I'm not claiming that as truth. Just kind of vaguely remember what was being said at the time.

Was it the veteran that stuck around on Sid's wing for awhile? Or the two that faded into oblivion when they couldn't keep up in the League anymore? I love that people went straight to Mark Recchi.

This... He's also never part of the former players that they trot out for charity games, etc. Recchi makes his way to PGH pretty often.

Saw him in a restaurant at the Ritz Carlton Cayman Islands about one week after the Pens released him. Very weird to see him on vacation chilling just a few days after being released mid-season.

Confused by the palffy comment i read. When he left that team he was arguably the best player on it. Mario and crosby included...and he quit the sport for a season and a half. Not sure how thats fading at all, much less "fading into oblivion".

Olczyk didn't like Palffy. I believe it was a hawks broadcast earlier this year where he mentioned something about not being happy with his effort. Said something along the lines of he played when he felt like it, which wasn't often. It came off as Olczyk basically laying part of the blame for his coaching failure on Palffy, who was one of his better players not trying or caring.

I have no idea if Palffy was the guy the article is talking about, but it wouldn't surprise me given what Olczyk said earlier this year.

Was this in March of that year? I saw him at the Charlotte airport that March. I was on a flight back from Mexico, and because it was late in the evening I assumed he was on the same flight, but maybe he was returning from the Cayman islands. I don't think he liked it too much that I recognized him.

Ziggy must have gotten permission from GM Patrick or Mario to leave the team during the season for his wedding? Circa end of november 2005 ?
Leclair / Ziggy didn't have the stomach to remain with the penguins after Mario retired. They wanted no part of the rebuilding penguins.
I do remember Ryan Malone crediting Leclair with helping him... me , all I could see was flyer orange.

Sid took a lot of crap his rookie year.

Edzo, you used Erik Christensen as a center and Sid as his wing.... no coaching for you. ;)
