Swelling had to be allowed to go down. They had him runnng steps recently so its possible that there is some kind of work he needs to put in prior to them operating. No idea but im guessing they arent doing anything that crazy.

Yeah I know,Its just strange.. Swelling had to go down, that true, but thats still big time frame to wait. Maybe he was doing some exercises because of muscles, but you lose muscles big time anyway after operation,so you need to work out as crazy when allowed after operation to get back to prior condition.

I believe they were busy processing our latest trade ideas and simply forgot about Duper.

There is some debate that early surgical repair can, in some cases, result in more range of motion deficits. If Dupuis had a meniscus tear, they might have gone to surgery sooner. But if not, this is just probably a conserative approach aimed at maximizing outcome.

I had this surgery after i tore my acl playing hockey. they made me wait a few months also so some other stuff in my knee cld heal. There are also new studies that show that significant increase in strength to surrounding muscles reduce atrophy and heal time, especially if a cadaver tendon is used. He prob had cadaver tendon vs a piece of his own patella tendon as the recovery time can be months less, most pros go with this.

FWIW, I went with patella, more tried and true method.

This is common practice for many knee procedures now. Doctors encourage some "Pre-hab" before surgery.

Very true. Orthopods really want the swelling down and strength up prior to surgery. Outcomes are much much better with this approach. This maximizes Active range of motion post aurgery and minimizes muscular atrophy especially in the quads.

Is there even a chance that Duper could be available to play if the pens make it to the finals?

The "standard" recovery time from ACL surgery is something like six months. Rod Woodson tore his in the first game of the 1995 NFL season and came back to play in the Super Bowl less than 5 months later.

So its really really unlikely. Malkin tore his in early January 2011, when did he start skating again? I feel like he did a little bit with the team in the playoffs that year before the Tampa Bay debacle.

There were some issues that had to be rectified before he could have surgery.

IIRC the word was that if the Pens made the conference finals/Cup finals Malkin may have been able to play.

Given Duper's age and the fact that his game is entirely dependent on speed, he'll be fortunate to be 100% by the time the preseason starts. I'm sure he will be back and work hard to get back to where he was, but the odds are at his age that he will lose something, due to either injury or age catching up. I hope he comes back stronger than ever and proves me wrong, but this isn't a 20 year old like Tyson Barrie we're talking about.

Did anyone see the latest (or maybe the one before it) episode of In the Room? Geno tells Duper "you play playoff". Duper just laughs and says "Yeah, OK Geno".

Its been announced late season that Duper would not be available for the playoffs. Now, if they made the finals and lost 4 RW's in game 1, sure, suit him up, but really, he's done for this season/playoffs.

If the pens make it to the finals and we are up 3-1 or 2 then I say dress him and have him play a short shift to get his name on the cup...
