Bennett back to practice

http://penguins.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=708649&navid=DL|PIT|home

My target (to return) is sometime in the next week, week and a half,” Bennett said. “It’s a day-by-day thing. If I have no setbacks I’ll take a new step every day

Until (Bennett sees the doctor) there isn’t a return (date) to play,” head coach Dan Bylsma said. “That’s on the horizon for Beau, next weekend. We’ll go from there once he’s been evaluated by the doctor at that point in time

Won't be long now. How do you think the forward lineup gets augmented once Bennett returns?

Now:

Kunitz - Crosby - Stempniak
Pyatt - Malkin - Neal
Jokinen - Sutter - Vitale
Glass - Goc - Adams

Who sits? I might have said Pyatt, but I liked what he did with Geno vs Anaheim, and he deserves a couple more games there to see if her can keep it up. The logical place for Bennett, at least until he finds his form, is on the 3rd line, probably 3RW. If so, does Vitale sit? Goc wont, so maybe, just maybe... one of Glass or Adams? We have enough penalty killers now (Sutter, Goc, Stempniak, Glass, Vitale, Adams, Kunitz) that you could conceivable sit Adams.

Assuming Adams dresses, I like sitting Vitale. Do we think Pyatt will last on the second line? I dislike moving Jokinen.

I could see the lines being (bear in mind I'm not trying to be accurate with LW/RW, just the gist of the lines):

Kunitz-Crosby-Stempniak
Jokinen-Malkin-Neal
Bennett-Sutter-Vitale
Glass-Goc-Engelland/Adams/Pyatt

If Bennett can remain healthy

When Beau returns...

Kunitz - Crosby - Bennett
Jokinen - Malkin - Neal
Goc - Sutter - Stempniak
Glass - Vitale - Engellend/Adams/Pyatt/Scrub

Adams is not sitting. As ludicrous as it is, it's just not going to happen.

Bennett will start off on the 3rd line, and depending on how he looks (and how well Stumpy performs on the top line) he'll get rotated in with Sid. I'm guessing that he'll be a permanent fixture there by the end of the season.

Also, Gibbons was hurt last game, which is why he sat. He'll be back in there too.

Vitale seems to be the likely one to sit. I'd love to see Goc - Sutter - Bennett, Glass - Vitale - Adams though.

Kunitz - Crosby - Bennett
Pyatt - Malkin - Neal
Jokinen - Sutter - Stempniak
Glass - Goc - Vitale

The 3rd line is a legitimate threat to score, and the 4th line is better than the 3rd line we have been trotting out most of the year. I like it. Would also accept:

Kunitz - Crosby - Bennett
Jokinen - Malkin - Neal
Goc - Sutter - Stempniak
Glass - Vitale - Megna/Gibbons

You could double shift Sid/Malkin with the 4th line there with Megna and Vitale and apply significant pressure too.

I know its a fool's hope to think Adams could sit, but with this many players now that can PK in addition to being good hockey players, it makes less sense to carry Adams as a PK specialist.

I think your 2nd lineup, with Engelland on the 4th line RW, is the best possible lineup we could dress.

I'd be partial to your 1st lineup with Megna in for Pyatt, but that'll never happen.

Why is that thumbs up worthy? We were getting walked against the Ducks until they switched up Jokinen and Pyatt.

It's like switching goalies mid-game. Yeah, the goalie (or in this case, a line) had a bad game, but you go back to him (or them) because you know they're going to come out big the next game, and you know what they're capable of.

$10 says Bylsma pencils Adams into the lineup for at least the first two games after he retires.

Shelly Anderson @pgshelly

Bennett smiled and said his wrist injury was fluky and he doubts the public will ever know the details. #Penguins

Oh, man. And I've been laying awake at night just trying to figure out the details of a wrist injury to a guy with almost zero contribution to date. Can't wait till he comes back and we can really tap into that 10 goals a year pace.

Yeah, I know. After he gets some consistent ice time with some steady linemates I'm sure he'll contribute much more, just as soon as he gets and stays healthy...haha..hahaha...bwhahahahahahahahahaha.
