The fact of the matter is that since the Olympic break the team is under .500

That "since the Olympic break" timeframe takes up 20 games, which is 25% of the season, so this is no small sample size.

The team is injured, yes, but to assume the team will get 100% healthy and then gel and play to the best of their abilities immediately upon taking the ice is a pretty optimistic outlook.

Was that even a joke? How was it funny?

Here, let me try. I should get a bunch of people quoting me, laughing out loud.

it's about as funny as people saying 100%...although likely much more probable to be true.

Both extremes are equally bad. Given the injuries and the team's performance since the Olympic break, if you think is unthinkable the team could lose, your head is buried in the sand. On the flip side, as long as you have Sid and Malkin playing (as they both should be by then), you have a decent shot at winning.

Trying to make fun of people that have concerns about the team is dumb though. It comes off as "if you don't believe this team is the best, you're not a true fan!" The Pens have been noticeably bad of late.

It was a throwaway joke after a 4-0 skunking. I have no idea what Rylan thinks about the team's long term prospects. It was amusing and made me smile. I think we're reading too much into it.

I presume if MR had not made the comment he did you probably would not have responded given you guys are always back and forth.
