Errey for new Head Coach

Postby IntangibleBeer on Sun Apr 06, 2014 2:20 pm

I'm really going to stir things up.

I propose Bob Errey for the head coaching job, replacing Dan Bylsma. Nothing against DB, but the team is not responding to him. Errey has had a terrific career, 2 Stanley Cups, captained a fledgling team (San Jose Sharks), understands the game on a number of levels, and most importantly, has the fire in the belly for the game.

I believe Errey will have the instant respect of the players and the disciplined approach to take them as far as they can go.

And I think the change needs to be made NOW.

His skills as a commentator make him entertaining. But let's not forget that he sees a great deal of the game - the nuances, the details - that he doesn't or can't necessarily report. His credentials as a player make him a formidable coach.

No way. Sure, he (probably) couldn't be worse than Olczyk, but what this team needs isn't another experience-free coach, even if he knows the game. What in Errey's playing history shows that he could coach a pair of guys like Crosby and Malkin?

Maybe an assistant, but no way jump into coaching as the head man.

Thats nice for analysis and commentary...not great for anything more than assistant coach. He could be a good coah, but he has proven nothin to this point.

No coaching experience whatsoever, so what could possibly go wrong?

I know people are making jokes about this, but replacing the coach of a first place team with it's color commentator is not a strange or funny idea in any way, and it should be immediately considered.

I think he'd be too friendly with the players due to his current role. The tv team travels with the team & stays in the same hotels etc. Not a terrible idea, but if DB goes it's likely to be in the offseason. I could see Martin stepping in or Laviolette & Tocchet as dark horses.

I have a feeling that Errey would be just as buddy-buddy with the players as Bylsma. Nothing would change.

GM Ray Shero hiring Mario's friend; suicide. I like Bob Errey where he is; makes the broadcast fun.

Honestly, I'd forgotten about Martin. He seems to be invisible lately.

I still think Errey would command the respect of the players, but perhaps he is too inexperienced to be a head coach immediately. I do think the time to pull the trigger on a coaching change is now. The fact that they are in first place in the division is nice, but irrelevant. We've seen what the regular season means come playoff time - ZIP.

the time to fire Byslma has long passed. The time could return in the offseason, but it ain't now.

He might stick to systems that don't work, play guys who have no business being on the ice, and not hold players accountable for their actions on the ice.
