Flower made some great saves and he had to make many extra saves due to the inability to clear the puck.

Letang and Martin look refreshed and ready for the post-season.

Beau Bennett needs to cut down on the time he is taking to line the puck up for the perfect shot; just shoot the puck.

You missed the Ronnie Francis era; he would argue face-offs.

That last goal.... all i was hoping for was to hold onto that lead and beat Detroit. I can't even blame Fleury he seemed to have a bead on it just couldn't pick his shoulder up high enough. Barely squeeked in there.. Really took the wind out of my sails.

But i can;t get over how well coached that team is. All thoes players understand skate as fast as you can to the puck carrier and slow them down. Their acceleration to the puck carrier is incredible. Its admazing how they follow. Slow down the oppenent at all cost within the rules. Obstruct everyone, everywhere on this ice as much as the refs will allow. And they do it so much the refs have to let it go and only call the real bad infractions. They are taught to protect the puck certin ways along the boards to buy them time.

Its a freaking boring and fustrating system to watch, but you can't argue the results.

I do.

For instance:

Carries a much different connotation.

Arena was filled with red jerseys last night, and only one of them that I saw was a Malkin Russia. I did see a red Crosby Canada as well, so maybe the Detroit invasion wasn't as bad as it seemed? Although the Wings fans around me were intolerable, I eventually had to move. Which is the exact opposite of what I had experienced at the Joe where they were pretty friendly and knowledgeable.

You should watch the replay again. He saw the puck coming and made every effort to get to it through the screen. It was coming fast, high, and awkward. I'm not gonna fault Marc on that one and I'm far from a MAF apologist. If he plays as hard as he did last night in the potential playoff matchup, DET will fall stunned and MAFFED.

He may be too short. But if he is too short, he needs to learn how to jump.

He needs to learn how to jump for the odd bounce every 150 games or so?

What?

My main concern watching the past few games is Crosby does not seem to have any drive to his game right now. He sorta looks like he's going through the motions. Let's just hope he's saving it for playoffs.

Scuderi looked good out there which was nice to see. Hindsight says save a few million by not even signing him and play Bortuzzo and Despres if you also knew Niskanen would have a career year and Maatta would play like a 10 year vet.

But right now the defense didn't look stupid half the game which is what is desperately needed right now. Leave it as is.

Or, and I know this is a radical thought regarding this team, how about Martin puts Jurco on his backside or moves him out of Fleury's view??? Or ties up his stick?

Martin is literally standing right next to Jurco yet makes no effort to defend him in any way. What is he doing just standing there? Watch it again.

Why isn't he goal side of the forward, moving him out of the way so Fleury can see the shot?

This will be exploited in a seven game series. DB has done nothing but accept the timid, lackadaisical play in front of the net while continuously rewarding the most egregious offenders with a sweater night after night. Then he sits the guys that play tough and with pride and passion in front of the net. :face: Credit to Fleury for keeping his cool and not melting down. :thumb:

sorry for the rant, wasn't really directed at you.

I'm just not sure why Fleury is even the topic if you (anyone) take even a cursory glance at what was happening in front of him.

So was the third goal a weak goal or not?

I am not going to be able to rest until there is some sort of concensus.

That was a pretty mediocre team the held us to 4 shots in the first.

It is a weak goal IF he knows how to jump or stand on a stool but didn't do it. Oh, and if Paul Martin knows how to use his backside.

THG has before, so I don't know why you're trying to make it look like you know what you're talking about because you played net.

point is...flukey goals are flukey. nothing really Fleury did wrong on that deflection. Could he have been a bit less erratic? sure, but he was erratic in the shootout save on Alfe and that worked out just fine and dandy.

It was a fluke goal in the end, but i still think it was iffy given how he played it. There is no doubt Fleury is great when it comes to shootouts, but that doesnt count come playoffs.[/quote]

It has its uses.
