Where is he now? Last I heard he was coaching in the WHL. Portland Winterhawks?

Head coach of the Everett Silvertips. I think they would be able to lure him away.

I just looked at his playoff record... hmmm... maybe not so much.

How about a Trotz, Martin, Tochett coaching staff, with Bales retained as goalie coach? Is there enough offensive creativity in the mix to balance the defense-heavy Trotz/Martin combo?

I'd love to see a former beast of a player in the coaching mix. Tochett's playing style surely would help to develop more of a team toughness/pack mentality that is completely MIA right now. I'd love to retain Martin, but I don't know that he wants a head coaching gig at his age. Keeping him around as an assistant makes a lot of sense.

Rossi:

Ownership believed Bylsma lost the dressing room this season, specifically the support of franchise centers Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, the sources said.

Players were unhappy with Bylsma's numerous meetings and long practices and the decreasing sense of fun within the Penguins' daily environment, the sources said.

Crosby and Malkin also grew disenchanted with perceived harsh criticism they received from Bylsma during meetings, the sources said.

Wow. Here we are, saying we need a coach to hold the players accountable, call more practices, emphasize discipline etc. Apparently Bylsma was doing all those things, and that is why hes getting canned? Never go full Rossi, but still, WOW.

Al Muir of SI is spreading the rumor that Mike Keenan will be the next coach of the Pens.

Don't read SI, so I don't know anything about Al Muir. Don't know if he's credible or not.

If we think we've seen Fleury with mental problems, wait till Keenan gets a hold of him for a month.

He's credible enough -- but I wouldn't go so far as to say he's spreading the rumor: http://nhl.si.com/2014/05/14/mike-keena ... -penguins/.

It's more like a media talking head mentioned it and Muir looked into the realities. Keenan would be entertaining for a small time, but the wrong choice in the long run. Plus, if anyone thinks Country Club Lemieux would put his team through Keenan Hell, they're severely mistaken.

We might be leaving Country Club 2.0, but Lemieux won't turn this team over to the dark side, that's for sure.

I don't think anyone hated Bylsma but at the end of the day I don't think many of them respected him.

You can hate a guy but still respect him, but if a coach has no respect from his leaders then he's ineffective.

That's not at all what the article says, and in fact, he describes Kypreos (who actually is the one who reported Keenan's name "popping up") as going for "shock value" in making his report.

EDIT: I see I am behind lol

They need a coach who is defensive-minded, will instill discipline, get the best out of his players, and have the team play a tough, hard-nosed game. They need Jules Winnfield.

You know the biggest reason Shero should go with Bylsma? Because Shero didn't build this team around Crosby and Malkin, he built this team around Dan Bylsma and his system.

Brought in a ton of freaking midgets who can skate and have no talent because that is what Dan loves. Drafted nothing but pucking moving dmen because that is what Dan wants.

A team with less and less toughness every single year and does nothing but play the outside of the rink and never hit anyone. Just like Dan wants.

Brought in a bunch of reject veterans to fill in the roster so young guys don't have to play. Just like Dan likes.

Shero screwed up this team way more than he has helped it. These past five years have been a massive waste of time and a waste of talent. This fan base was cheated. We deserved so much better from this group.

Shero attached himself to Bylsma last summer. Now he needs to go with him.

The Keenan thing is funny if he coached the pens I could only imagine how Fleury would feel. He would get pulled about a 1000 times during the season

Teams hire a GM first and then a Coach.

Nothing can happen until Shero's fate is determined.

If he's fired, the new GM gets to pick his own coach. That's how it works. Swapping coaches is easy. Replacing a GM is an entire system reboot (scouting, drafting, trades, signings, team culture, etc). That needs to be decided quickly, need to get started ASAP if indeed a new group is going to be brought in.

Unless they brought in Babcock as both GM and coach...

Would love to have him but Detroit would never let him get out of his contract a year early to go coach a rival.

Here ya go "Pensfan2010". The trick to get it to work is to remove the "s" off the end of "https".

Last night someone called Mark Madden. Here's an abridged version of the conversation:

Caller: "What about bringing in Trotz?"

MM: "Barry Trotz or Brian Trottier?"

(Caller pauses obviously not knowing what he's talking about)

Caller: Brian Trottier
