I figured they would announce it on Friday. The ol' presidential trick.

PR 101. There's literally nothing going on today, especially in Pittsburgh. Worst day ever to announce it.

And they'd never announce it before locker clean out day. The didn't want the players to have to answer questions about Bylsma. Now, if Shero is let go tomorrow, I'll be surprised. If he is fired, I'd expect it sometime next week.

If Shero is fired I would expect it to be announced at the same time as Bylsma. They won't leave him hanging. Either they tell Ray he's staying and they fire Dan together, or they tell him he's out at the same time as Dan. If he's the GM and is to remain the GM, he would be involved in firing the coach.

I don't think Babcock will leave Detroit early. I'd love him here ( I think!) but I don't see it happening.

I think in order of preference:

- Trotz
- Martin
- Keenan

I think it was DK that said today the only reason the DB firing hasn't been announced yet is there is still no decision on Shero's fate.

Precisely. If they were keeping Shero, Bylsma would have been fired already.

If they were firing Shero, they both would have been fired already...

Shero is still undecided. Im guessing Friday or Monday, we will know both their fates.

We find it's always better to fire people on a Friday. Studies have statistically shown that there's less chance of an incident if you do it at the end of the week.

Either Detroit gives the minor league coach the coach and let Babcock go, or they offer
Babcock multiple years after that minor league coach signs elsewhere.

The inherent stupidity of using a singular scapegoat.

not a scapegoat - just saying if you think a coach shouldn't over value an aging veteran over a capable younger player... Babcock is not exactly the holy grail to choose amongst a room full of holy grails....

hmm not sure why I used an Indiana Jones reference there, it makes no sense.

You chose poorly.

Yup, he was there for the 5 previous years and was nowhere to be found today. I think that's a good sign.

If this Babcock thing is true, then it's a complete steal of a move. I'll believe it when I see it. I could see Babcock wanting to come here, but Detroit is so good to their people that he might have a tough time leaving, and they'll make it even tougher with a contact extension dangling in front of him.

If not, give me Trotz, give me boring hockey, I don't care right about now. Could you imagine Trotz and Martin behind the bench? Zzzzzzzzzz. I would love to see him develop/work with our young Dmen in the system and see what he can do with a bit of offensive talent.

I know Hynnes' name has been thrown around, but I'm not so sure I want ANOTHER promotion from within. I've heard he can be a hard ass at times, which would be nice, and he's worked with some pretty big names in the US development program, but I'm just not sure I want to go from within again, and especially another coach with zero NHL experience.

If Shero stays he has a tough summer ahead of him filling out this roster. I think a trade is inevitable. He's gonna have to deal one/some of our young dmen for some friggin forward depth. If this is his philosophy, then it's time to do it. If you're keeping Letang, do you deal Pouliot? I hope not, but who knows. I definitely don't want Harrington gone either, I wanna see what this kid develops into. There's a reason he was twice an OHL first team all star. Samuelsson? Dumoulin? Despres? Bortuzzo? Maataa? We can't keep them all.

Let's get a coach in place, see what his philosophies are and draft and trade accordingly.
