They'll either get Babcock this year or not at all. If Babcock wants to leave DET (Pittsburgh is only 4 hours away from Detroit, where his family is), then the parties will work it out.
I firmly believe that Bylsma will not be retained. Nothing in L & B's comments suggest it to me.
But I have a hypothetical question for everyone: Suppose DB does stay, the new GM brings in the players for DB's system, and it's brilliant (OK, that's an extreme adjective)? Suppose we win it all next year? Could anyone live with that outcome?
I could, because isn't that the end-game? To match system and personnel in order to win it all? So the starting point comes from the GM side and not the coach side.
My head feels like it's taken too many hits by Marc Staal's stick.
