Apparently, according to CapGeek, he's signed to an entry level deal. I'm not quite sure why. He never put up more than 32 points in any junior season and is supposed to be an offensive player. I know he's got speed to burn, but so did Konstantin Koltsov.

I asked Molinari about Sundqvist and signing him or losing him and he said there would be a story about it in Friday's post-gazette

LOL i originally asked Molinari and Yohe on twitter about Sundqvist and since Molinari responded i guess he played his hand to his rival news outlet so it forced him to post a portion of it now ahead of the full version of tomorrow..... his personal message didn't read happy

The Penguins still don’t have a permanent general manager, but they do have some GM-level decisions looming.

Team officials have to sign two players claimed in the 2012 draft -- forward Oskar Sundqvist and defenseman Clark Seymour -- by 5 p.m. Sunday or relinquish their rights.

The Penguins appear to be moving aggressively to reach an agreement with Sundqvist, but Seymour likely will be allowed to re-enter the talent pool for the 2014 draft in Philadelphia next month.

Jason Botterill, who has served as interim GM since Ray Shero was fired May 16, could not be reached for comment.

Sundqvist, the second of the Penguins' two third-round selections, had six goals and 10 assists in 51 games with Skelleftea AIK in the Swedish Hockey League.

He is 6 feet 2, 196 pounds and is regarded as a reliable two-way player.

Seymour, a fifth-round choice, is a physical, defensive defenseman. He had seven goals, 16 assists and 85 penalty minutes in 61 games with Peterborough in the Ontario Hockey League.

He did play 54 games for one of the most offensively anemic teams in the O this year...and the Rangers haven't been offensive juggernauts in a few years. I admit that I haven't gotten to see much of him to know what is there besides his speed.

I do not know alot about these super young guys, but why let Seymour go back into the draft? 6'4, defensively rather sound and likes to hit people...? Isn't that the kind of guy that you actually want?

We, and every organization, has a metric ton of these type of players. But a finite amount of contracts.

Yeah, pretty much from the day he was drafted, it was kind of a "huh" pick that didn't have a ton of expectations, especially considering the pool at the time. Pens already have a further-along version of Seymour playing already in McNeill, so, no sense wasting a valuable contract spot on him.

Well, I think it's a combination of 1) the Pens counting on him being able to round out the defensive-side of his game to turn him into an effective bottom-6er, and 2) we aren't exactly overflowing with forwards in the prospect pool at the moment. Might as well see what Hynes can do with him (for how ever long he's still there).

You have to have and value hockey sense to find it. Hardest trait to scout. Obviously, not a high priority for our staff.

I guess he has abilities you can't teach, and you hope that he picks up some of the ones you can? I can't say I noticed a single thing he did at the public training camp session. He was actually the 13th fw in his group, iirc.

Scoring at the NHL level is a whole other adjustment players take time to make when making the jump. Gibbons has shown he CAN score and I think if given a more sustained presence on the roster you'd see him get more comfortable.

IMO when I look at his missed scoring chances it doesn't seem like he doesn't know how to score, it seemed more that he was just a step behind in the reaction speed he needs to have to bury them, and that takes a little time for players who aren't NHL naturals.

I believe he could be a player who averages 15 to 17 goals a year and around 30 to 40 points if he's a fixture on the third line.

I'm not as optimistic about Gibbons as Hugo Stiglitz, but he had a goal, an assist, and a couple other breakaways while shorthanded in 8 playoff games. If he's able to put up say 5 g, 5 a, shorthanded over the course of a full season, I would say that is worth a 4th-line spot right there. We've been complaining for the past several years that the Pens have no shorthanded threat to keep the other team honest.

Last year two players had 5 SH goals. 1 player had more than 5 assists. No one had 5 G or 5 Ain 2011-12. 4 players had 5 goals or more in 2010-11; no one had 5 assists.

I think you may need to recalibrate your expectations for what Gibbons can do SH.

Well it is good. We need forward prospects who aren't small and don't sucj and he's fairly big and at the very least competent.
