What a joke. This reminds me of when we trade stuff Barnes for me Barnaby because we wanted to get tougher. :face: I already HATE Rutherford

Fair trade. Gives a top 6 winger back and a real bottom 6 player that is an RFA which will keep his cost controlled.

Yep. Fills two holes. Helps build the 3rd line and definitely isn't that big a drop in the 2nd. I think Neal was a product of Malkin more than anything.

And we lose the 20 braindead retaliation penalties in the offensive zone per season

Hornqvist is a good player. He was a fan fav in Nashville... has scored 30 goals. Plays in front of the net, fiesty, etc. Kinda like a RW Kunitz. He'll be liked here.

Not sure about Spaling. Seems like a wayward 3rd liner. Guy we could easily upgrade via free agency.

If we had picked up Gabe Bourque + Hornqvist, I'd love this trade. As it is, meh. It's a 80 cents on the dollar trade. We easily lose the best player. Really suprised we couldn't do better than this.

I've a sad feeling that this is par for the course with GMJR, a bunch of sideways move that will lead us to mediocrity.

I don't know if I'm OK with this. It reeks of...Rutherford.

NSH gets the best player. Geno loses a guy he loves playing with.

Does GMJR think this is a 2A = 1G kind of trade?

Neal gone, we're probably going to lose Niskanen. So much for that Dallas trade. Got about 3 years out of it.

We gave up the best player. That usually means the trade isn't very good.

Neal is a perimeter player and that doesn't go very far in the playoffs. With the current Nashville centers he will be lucky to score 20 goals.

Don't discount Hornqvist's ability to score. I am honestly not entirely sure the Preds got that much of a better player.

Hornqvist has consistently been a 20+ goal scorer every season he has been in the league. One year at 30 goals. Spaling had 32 pts this past season. The pairing is not bad. Maybe not the best or flashy trade but its not a bad trade by any stretch. If the goal was to trade Neal and add some depth, mission accomplished.

Hornqvist at 4.25 mil
Spaling is a RFA at 1.5 mil

for Neat at 5 mil

Doesn't make financial sense.
