Kasperi Kapanen - Pittsburgh Penguins no.22 draft pick 2014
No need to talk about our drafted kid in NPR in draft 2014 thread. So what do you guys think about it,Mikey,Jesse?

Sounds like smart IQ,quick player with good hands, his father was good player and hard worker.. I was hoping for Scherbak or Lemieux, but he is good as well. He will need to bulk up a bit,get some muscles, but he*s got time, still young.. Reports are that he is 5'10 to 6'0 tall..and from weights - 165lbs to 180lbs!?

I hear that he has between 2-4 appendages as well. :pop:

Gosh...what a wide range in height/weight.

You'd think, being draft time, that info would be solidified.

Lots of guys could have been chosen. But I love the fact we drafted a RW and not a general forward or center. He immediately becomes our best forward prospect and is probably the best forward prospect in a long long time (not counting Staal Crosby or Malkin of course)

Yeah, its a difference,I rather have that info in cm and kg,like Im used to in europe.. so he is tall somewhere from 178cm to 183cm and weights somewhere 75kg to 81kg!? :)

He appears to be about 12 years old in the photograph published by the PG. So I'm sure he'll grow from his current height and weight. :pop:

I'll be honest:

I'm not disappointed in the selection, especially when you consider he shouldn't have even been available, but I really wanted Barbashev.

I was honestly shocked to read he's 5'10. When he walked up I thought to myself that he looks pretty tall.

I think he'll end up being the best winger drafted this year. Hockey's future had him picked at #7. I'm stoked on this pick. He played against men in Finland last season. I wouldn't be suprised to see him earn a 10 game tryout this year, and be ready for full time next season.

The infusion of scandahoovian talent into this team is exciting (Maatta, Hornqvist, Kapanen), as I love the way these guys play.

One of the things I like is that he plays in the Men's league. That has to only make him ready to handle the NHL a little earlier.

Im surprised how little discussion about this guy there is on the board. Everyone must still be shocked from the Neal trade.f In any case, it seems like this guy was a steal at 22, is a legit top line RW prospect, and comes from a very good hockey bloodline. Love this pick. We filled the biggest hole in our prospect pool with an excellent player.

When I read more about the Neal trade and how people think we could have at least flip flopped 1st round picks with them, who do you think the Pens would have picked at 11?

Being that Kapanen was 7th on the Pens list, you're looking at him. A switch of the picks would have given us Kapanen as well I bet. I like that we actually took a talented winger. A winger with speed, smarts, hands, a shot....what's not to like? Good bloodlines too can't hurt.

I'm fine with drafting smart players. So I guess it was between him and McCann.

I love, love, love this kid based on what I've read about him.

I can't freaking believe Sami Kapanen has a kid old enough to be drafted. I'm saying that more and more every year.

He's playing for KalPa now, but he's still just a baby--only 17, 18 next month!

I look forward to seeing him make the big Finnish national team, too, in the next few years.

Kapanen is a steal. He's one of the best and one of the surest players to become a regular at NHL.

Awesome!

2 years away from being 2 years away? That's just bollocks. He has already played in the pros, and is one of the most respected finnish forwards right now - and all this, despite his age. One more year in SM-Liiga, one in AHL, and he's more than ready for NHL.

one to two years ago I thought Kapanen is going to be a sure fire #1 pick overall, and here we are, having picked him up, to play for Pittsburgh.

I'm very happy we did not move our first rounder

I just read that pens scouts feel he's only a year or two away from being ready for the Pens.

I agree with this. I'm just glad we're not flooded with the whole "he's Sami Kapanen's dad and he was only drafted because of dad's connection to Rutherford."
