Brooks Orpik Tribute Thread

Postby FreeCandy44 on Sun Jun 29, 2014 12:08 pm

Just wanted to post a tribute to my favorite player/username since he is probably going to walk. I realise he was a whipping boy here, but ive been a fan since he was drafted during the X Generation days and ive met him several times. Great player, awesome hits, and a true pro. Thanks for the hits, Erik Cole, the icy stare, and the cup.

Ah Brooks. The master of committing a dumb penalty and then crying about it on his way to the penalty box.

The probable loss of Brooks Orpik has flown under the radar here recently, hasn't it? He was a really solid player for us a lot of years, I'll miss him.

Hopefully they sign cardboard Orpik though to keep the memory alive.

He is not the greatest defenseman in the world. This is just a tribute.

I agree with 98% of the sentiment here, but you may want to nix thanking him for injuring Erik Cole. It's never a good thing when a player gets hurt.

He really is the last remnant of the "dark years." Lest we forget how bad we really were 2002 - 2006.

We watched him grow with the organization. He committed, sticking it out and building his career here when times were tough and the future looked bleak. He never gave up on the Pens.

I'll always appreciate him for that and I won't turn my back on him. I wish he could retire a Pen.

Who will take over his role on the team as "guy who complains about every penalty"?

I really liked Orpik during his years here. It was painful to watch his skills diminish in recent years. NHL hockey beats up your body, especially physical defensemen. Good luck Brooks (hope you end up in the west for a few years and then retire back to our city).

Whipping boy status js saved for guys that never deserved to be on the roster or they played at a comically abysmal level. Brooks just started to lose what made him a great dman. It happens. It doesn't diminish what hes accomplished or his status as a stud in pgh hockey history lore. While "the shift" may be his highlight, he helped lead and produce some quality defense while his forwards played pond hockey. Happy trails, brother.

Some people here to work on their appreciation thread skills (not referring to the OP).

If this is it, thanks for everything Brooksy! Really a pleasure to have seen you develop as a homegrown talent and see you invest all the time and energy into this team from its darkest days to one of its greatest.

I don't believe that any defenseman has played more games in a Penguins sweater than Orpik, and for that, I thank you! All the best if you're moving on!

Much respect to Brooks for being one of the few bright spots on those bad teams early in his career. He carved himself out a very nice and respectable career, and always spoke his mind. He's not a good fit for this team anymore, but I'm sure he will get a chance to play somewhere else and he's earned that.
