The Neal trade made the team better.
Orpik leaving makes the team better just by him leaving.
Ernhoff more than replaces Nisky.

So... I guess your news flash is from the Onion?

It was a wonderful day for us. We signed a legit top 4 dman to a real good deal, signed a solid bottom six and a solid backup goalie for dirt cheap, and best of all, got rid of a ton of garbage by letting all of our UFA's walk.

News flash: We still have a lot of time to find another forward.

I'd say Rutherford signed the best deal of the day.

I think the team is better than it was a week ago. Which was better than it was in May.

And to you trade idea... who the ruddy-poo would trade a potential top 6 winger for Scuderi? Seriously... Shut the PlayStation off because it is LIEING to you. You are MAJORILY assuming that someone would want Scuderi and his $3.75 salary. Even just for a #7 pick. No one, NO ONE, wants him. He is a Penguin. Accept it.

And... One open spot in the top 9... in July.

*majorly
*Scuderi makes $3,375,000 - not $3,750,000

And if Engellend is making $2.9, there is a team that would take him for $3.375...definitely.

Whether or not the Pens want to move him at the current time is another story.

Thank for the spell check. It makes me feel good that you care so much.

Shouldn't we be applauding GMJR for not doing this?

You've been harping on this all afternoon, but I don't know what you want them to do about it. It's not like teams just willingly take a "bad" investment for quality returns. Yes, for what Scuds gave last year, it looks like a bad signing, but look back at most Dmen we've acquired over the last 10 years and more than half have been "busts" their first year on the team (Gonchar, Martin, Niskanen come to mind). He's got a decent likelihood to improve his performance this year and at worst can still provide veteran depth. Just dropping him to buy cap space doesn't guarantee anyone will be willing to fill that void for decent terms.

Washington signed Niskanin and Orpik, perhaps they can finish the trifecta and take Scuderi for anything in return?

Martin was great in his first year on the team. Why do people always think that he sucked his first year? It was his second year that was horrible.

Or Scuderi for an 8th round pick and (Insert WBS defensemen to take his spot in the lineup).

In Shero We Trust!

Maybe this projected roster will win a playoff round.

Maybe.

I'd agree with Iginla to Colorado at my personal number 2. Just seems like a great fit.

That seems like an awful fit to me. Which center does he fit with? He's not going to be able to keep up with any of them. Maybe it works, but I really don't think so.

Not so much his foot speed, but a guy like Iginla is a good presence to have around all those youngsters

Not everything happens off of the rush... especially when your team plays like a team and not like a bunch of individuals.

Nice to see JR filled the teams needs. They needed a 3rd GT, a 4th line center and a defensemen.
