Not all teams have to be built on July 1st. I'm willing to let it play out a bit before I call JR a failure or anything like that.

The way I took it, Dupuis is going to be in the Top 6.

It seems like he might have bet on being able to try Scuderi, and once he signed Erhoff, he was stuck without any cap space.

That was weird. I'm not trying to make a joke about his age here - but really it sounded like they were testing him or something. "can you remember the names of the players you added?"

They talked abot playing their young guys during the draft now sign another +30 yr old defenseman with glaring top 9 holes.

What glaring holes in the top 9? They have Crosby, Malkin, Kunitz, Hornqvist, Dupuis and Bennett; that is 6 of the top 9. They have $9M in cap space right not but are not signing anyone else, so where is that $9M going, RFAs. Therefore Sutter and Spalding. That is 8 of the top 9. Doesn't seem like glaring holes. Maybe a 2nd line guy could be brought in... maybe just a 3rd.

They have an available spot... not glaring holes.

And who else then...you know, since Bennett is on LTIR. I guess Comeau or Spaling is Geno's new winger. Someone may want to escort him back here before he signs with the KHL.

As a team, you're right. As a team chasing a championship they have glaring holes. Ah well, Rome wasn't built in a day.

pretty much said it's gonna take a miracle to get him here.

So we signed another defenseman when our previous GM was fired because we didn't trust our young defenseman.... makes sense

Two vets leave, one vet enters. Still one open spot for the young guys.

Well, the day started off great with the Ehrhoff deal. But after that, nothing important. Let's just say the top two lines have a total of two top 6 wingers in Kunitz and Hornqvist. Rutherford sees nothing wrong with opening the season with Dupuis and Bennett as the other two. Does nobody in this organization have the guts to tell Sid that Pascal F'in Dupuis is NOT a top 6 winger??? And that he very likely won't be ready at the start of the year anyway? Oh, and Geno, enjoy those few games you get with Beau brittle before he sustains another season-ending injury.

Anyway, I'll end the rant there for now. But it sounds like GMJR is about to go on vacation, so it looks like this will be your opening day roster.

Yeah, they really do need to move a defenseman.

Once Maatta returns and Pouliot gets healthy, you have potentially 11 guys who could play in the NHL next year.

Letang
Martin
Ehrhoff
Maatta
Scuderi
Despres
Bortuzzo
Samuelsson
Dumoulin
Harrington
Pouliot

Nice work by GMJR today. No need to be in panic mode on July 1. The Pens don't need to have their playoff roster set yet. Nothing wrong with starting the season seeing how Bennett and Dupuis look, as well as the youngin's on defense. Martin can be moved at any time during the season if things aren't looking good at forward. I do think they'll need to do somehting with Scuderi soon, though, if only for cap reasons.

My concern is: Will Dupuis be at 100%? When will Beau be back? When hes back will he just get injured AGAIN? He still hasnt proven much because he keeps getting injured. I am no sold on Beau until I see him play a full season.

Dupuis didn't look like a top-liner BEFORE he got hurt. Bennett has never looked like one. To be counting on those guys is the height of insanity.

Injury frequency aside, what concerns me is that both Dupuis and Bennett may not start the year because of current injuries.
