They bought out Shane O'Brien's $2.2 million and got a player that's slightly worse for more...

Sorry to see him go. I thought he brought it every night. I liked the experiment at forward. I actually thought he was a better forward than a d-man and he brought some toughness to the lineup.
I hope he enjoys the payday!

Great deal for Engo... but I don't know what Calgary is thinking?? He deserves the payday it might be his last in the NHL.

Who takes over the enforcer duties now? We still seem rather easy to play against, at least to me.

Couldn't be more happy for Engelland. The contract is unreal, but nice to see a 32 year old journeyman with a pretty late career start getting enough money to last him a long time if he plays his cards right.

Since he lives in Vegas, I hope he plays his cards right.

My absolute favorite Engo moment was the KO of Colton Orr. Of course sending a bloodied Flyer, Jody Shelley, to the locker room ranks up there.

Not surprised at all he ended up in Calgary. The contract however is shocking. Best of luck to him. I suppose he does provide truculence, which someone in that organization covets. I just didn't think that was worth nearly $3M per year.

I'm actually kind of curious if Calgary meant to say "$2.9 mil over 3 years" on the contract, but made a typo.

Brad Richards is also receiving a butt load of buyout money from the Rags. Pretty much the same reason Ehrhoff signed here for cheap.

Wow, I thought it was $2.9 million for 3 years, not per season.

Good for him.

I'm happy for Engo, but this is possibly the most ridiculous signing thus far in terms of ability, stats and contract given. That said, I was a big fan of Engo and would love to have seen him on the 4th line - is he going to be a mainstay on CGY blue line?

My thoughts exactly. Only regret is why Shero didn't just trade him for Stempniak straight up last year.

Did Engo even play after the trade deadline? I don't remember him much Olympics on.

That's what we all though.... even some of the media
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck- ... 39817.htmlGotta love how this article thinks the 2 worst deals of the day were players the Pens did not resign. Good for them but I'm glad we don't have $8M tied up for those two.

Burke must have a lot empty seats to fill in Flameland. Loading up with pugilists.
In his 5 years with the Pens, Engo has played in a grand total of 13 playoff games. Zero (0) last year. Burke is quite the asset manager.

I'm pissed Bylsma never made him play forward more often. He really looked good in that role in the limited looks he got there. Love Engelland. Glad he got this deal.
