Pens draft lineup

Postby pcm on Mon Aug 04, 2014 4:00 pm

Scott Cullen did an interesting piece on each team's lineup based on players they drafted. http://www.tsn.ca/fantasy_news/feature/?id=121382

Here's the Pens (what a woeful forward group...imagine if we'd missed on Sid/Malkin):

Matt Moulson Sidney Crosby Jaromir Jagr
Ryan Malone Evgeni Malkin Beau Bennett
Maxime Talbot Jordan Staal Tyler Kennedy
Brian Gibbons Joe Vitale Mark Letestu
Paul Bissonnette Dustin Jeffrey Jayson Megna

Brooks Orpik Kris Letang
Andrew Ference Alex Goligoski
Jake Muzzin Olli Maatta
Ben Lovejoy Michal Rozsival

Marc-Andre Fleury
Chad Johnson

That actually looks pretty friggin' awesome. Cullen is historically awful with these league-wide generalizations because he doesn't know enough about each teams' prospects. Vitale, Letestu, Jeffrey, Megna, Bissonnette, and Gibbons (who wasn't even drafted) over Carcillo, Colby Armstrong, and Erik Christensen? I'm not saying those guys lit it up, but there is absolutely nothing to show for from some of the guys he listed.

Also, that defense is killer except for Ference. I wish Bylsma had gotten canned in time for a new coach to use Lovejoy.

After about a 30 second look through, I'd say for the forward groups Boston Colorado and Philly have the best.

I'd hardly call that group woeful. Three first-ballot HOFers, probably Top 50 players all-time. You could take the two best players away from each team and they'd all look a lot less imposing.

At first I thought this was an "all-time" draft team and was like "where the hell is Lemieux..."

Thought Megna was a free agent signing and not a draftee?

Correctamundo. Letestu, Gibbons and Lovejoy as well.

Looks like they included undrafted FA signings. Kunitz is there for Anaheim as well.

I like how Edmonton and the Flyers can only dress 4 defensemen.
