OFFICIAL GDT PENS VS. FLYERS 10/22/2014

Postby shafnutz05 on Wed Oct 22, 2014 6:21 pm

Since none of you lily-livered, timorous (thanks thesaurus.com), yellow-bellied, craven folk wanted to step up tonight, I suppose it falls to me.

What else needs to be said? The Flyers have been pretty terrible to start the year, although they've been in close games (the 4-0 loss to the Hawks last night being a notable exception). It goes without saying that they are going to come out pissed off and with high adrenaline. Order of the first period? Weather the storm and capitalize on their mistakes. They will wear down in the second and third.

Playing on the fourth line for Philly is Chris VandeVelde, probably better known for his epic meltdown at Carnoustie in 1999. If the Pens are smart, they can exploit the Flyers' blue line, but watch out for mistakes.

For today's GDT photo, I'd like to hearken back to April 25th, 2009. My wife and I scored tickets to the Wells Fargo Center, where we got to watch the Pens come back from 3-0 down to stun (and eliminate the Flyers) from the playoffs. It is still one of my favorite hockey moments, especially given it was the Cup run year, and we took some quality stunned pics that are still on the Internet. This one, as we were walking triumphantly to our car, was my favorite. Seriously, it's like a scene from The Walking Dead. LGP.

BTW, really? No one even noticed this in the last GDT?

Tonight, the Eastern Conference powerhouse New York Islanders come into the CEC riding a 4-0-0 streak to start the season. A 5-0-0 start would be the first in team history, and their 4-0-0 start is the first time they have accomplished that feat since they were the much lesser known East Islip Sounders in 1965, prior to their entry into the NHL.

I'm just a HUGE fan of those jerseys. I know I can dream, but I really hope this ultimately turns into something permanent for them.

I jokingly texted my buddy who is a flyers fan "Tonight is the night... the night that the Flyers entire season turns around." He said, "I highly, highly doubt it." lol

lol, that reminds me, the "I don't like them" line is the weakest locker room bulletin board material ever uttered, yet it will go on forever because it was Sid. I laugh every time I see it in some hyped up promo. He may as well be reviewing oatmeal there.

Sad this world has become like this, a moment of silence because of this absurd lack of humanity is not how I envisioned watching my favorite sport. Takes so enjoyment out for me. Doubt it will get better anytime soon in this world. Stay strong fans/good people in this world
