What would make next years parade better than this one?

Postby pensfan16 on Thu Jun 15, 2017 10:05 am

How about no Paul Steigerwald? He thinks he is funny but he isn't. Let more of the players speak.

I think he knows it is a hard thing to do in front of a crowd like that and he tries his best. I know for sure I could not do that and he probably has some anxiety prior as well. I know if I was Mears I would be very scared of having to do that if the Pens won again.

The forced cheers are the worst part. Just introduce the team and let the fans do the cheering.

Too much to say in one post, but I'll start.

Steigy is fine, but let Phil and Bob do a bit and our HHOF treasure Mike Lange needs to MC more (like 91). i haven't looked on YouTube for the 91 celebration at Point Park, but I was there and it was sooooo much better done than this years (besides the obvious first Cup aspect). The players all came up and said something. Sometimes eloquent, sometimes small ,sometimes corny and fun (Jagr broken English:"Elvis has left the building!"), but from the heart.

This is obviously not 1991, but hey guys, give us a little of your human side (Like MAF in 09 apologizing for swearing)

And does Sid have stage fright?

I don't really have any insights to add to this thread except the most important thing. Just having a parade automatically makes it better. Duh!!!

If they win again, I think Steigy will still be doing it since he is now part of the Pens Marketing Dept.

Much less of the Steigerwald and the comedy duo **** and let the PLAYERS speak. They were introducing players while the parade was still going on. Tacky. They didn't even let Mario speak.

I'm surprised that Steigerwald even asked the players to come to the front of the stage during his show. Quite underwhelming. The celebration is supposed to be about the players, not some marketing department show.

We'll just have to do it again next year....(and please let Steigerwald and his comedy team take the day off).

At the first Cup Rally at the Point in '91, virtually every player spoke. That was really enjoyable, from a fan's perspective. It would've been great to allow Fleury to say a few words in what will most likely be his last public appearance in Pittsburgh.

Force Ted and AO to stand in the front row across from the stage.

Steigey was so cringy I could barely watch. But no way the new director of media or whatever his title is now with the Pens won't be back. This was probably his first official public event and that's his job now.

The lone fact that we were having a parade next year would alone would make it better. It would mean that the Pens won another cup.
