Quote Roundup: Pens-Isles
[Here's what the Pens were saying in the locker room heading into their Metro Division matchup with the New York Islanders…
Spoiler:
https://www.nhl.com/penguins/news/quote-roundup-pens-isles/c-293768664
ON THE ISLANDERS, WHOSE OFFENSE IS 2ND IN THE NHL
Sheary: "They have some good talent in their lineup and some guys that are playing up to their potential. When you got guys like (John) Tavares in their lineup that are playing really well, I think that helps boost their team so we just have to be prepared for that and ready to go tonight."
Guentzel: "I think their forwards, the talent they have, they can put the puck in the net and we have to be aware of them. I think their power play too is really clicking."
Rust: "They have some really good offensive players. Not only forwards, but D-men. I think we have to be aware of that. They have guys who can put the puck in the net. If we play strong defensively that's going to give us the best chance to win."

ON THEIR FORMER NOTRE DAME TEAMMATE ANDERS LEE
Rust: "He's such a big body and has such good hands around the net. If he has a split second to find a rebound he's probably going to put it in."

Sheahan: "He just does such a great job in front of the net. He gets his stick on a lot of pucks and he's so big, he's hard to move. He's got a nose for the net and he works really hard, so I'm not surprised."

ON NOT GETTING INTO A TRACK MEET
Sheahan: "You don't want to play that run and gun game. We want to play to our strengths and I think when we're in the O-zone making smart plays, cycling around, getting four lines going I think that's when we're at our best. They might like to trade chance for chance but I think we just got to stay above them at certain times and play a little more defensive-minded and then capitalize on our offensive zone chances."

Rust: "When we have space to make plays, we can make them. When they're not there, don't make them. I think it's as simple as that. We have a lot of really skilled guys in here that can make a lot of plays. Turnovers are part of the game, they're going to happen, but I think if we manage those and try to have less of those that will tighten up our defense."

ON POTENTIAL CHIPPINESS
Rust: "Any time you play a team in your division it's a rivalry game. You see them so many times during the year that there's a little bit of bad blood. That makes games a little more fun."

Guentzel: "Whenever you play a team like this, you know It's going to be an energizing game. Obviously, we need those two points."

ODDS AND ENDS
Sullivan, on whether it's been a tough year for Schultz with injuries and consistency: "I don't think so. I think Justin has been one of our more consistent players. Part of it is with (Kris Letang)'s presence in the lineup, he hasn't got as much power-play time as maybe he's had last year. But his overall game, I think he's been one of our more consistent defensemen back there. his overall two-way game, we've been really pleased with. He's a guy that helps us in so many ways. I think we've grown to be accustomed to his point production from the back end, but we believe that he's the same player, he's making the same plays, he's been every bit as effective.

Sullivan, on Corrado: "The last time we had him up we really liked his game, he's got a little bit of bite to him. He's a stiff player, he's strong in the battle areas, he's good in the corners, in front of our net. He defends pretty well. I think he plays within himself. He understands what his limitations are and he plays within himself. Because of that he's a calculated player out there and that's what we like about his game. We're continuing to help him just with his execution time and the quickness of the NHL level. The first few strides, the mobility issue, and just the quickness of the execution time. I think he's a young player, the more he plays he'll make those adjustments. We've really liked his game the last time he was up. Given Schultzy's situation right now we needed another defenseman and he got high reviews from Clarkie (Donatelli) and Clarkie's coaching staff in Wilkes-Barre and we rely on those guys a lot and their opinions on who's going to help us win. He's one of those guys right now."

Penguins Recall Frank Corrado
Spoiler:
https://www.nhl.com/penguins/news/penguins-recall-corrado/c-293765002
The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled defenseman Frank Corrado from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.
Defenseman Justin Schultz has been placed on injured reserve.
Corrado, 24, played in three games for Pittsburgh earlier this year, posting an even plus/minus while averaging 11:06 minutes per game. Corrado has compiled five points (1G-4A) and a plus-4 in 12 AHL contests with WBS.

A 6-foot, 205-pound Toronto, Ontario native, Corrado saw action in two games with the Penguins during last year's regular season after being acquired at the trading deadline in a deal from the Toronto Maple Leafs that sent Eric Fehr and Steve Oleksy to the Leafs. Corrado skated with Pittsburgh's "Black Aces" practice squad during the final rounds of the Penguins' Stanley Cup run.

Originally a fifth-round (150th overall) selection by the Vancouver Canucks back in the 2011 NHL Draft, Corrado has appeared in a total of 74 career NHL games with Vancouver, Toronto and Pittsburgh, producing eight points (3G-5A). Corrado broke into the NHL as a 20 year old with Vancouver in 2013.

Get well soon #4! Hoping I'm not screaming at "the TV" during any potential PPs.

Malkin gets a penalty for doing the same thing done to him seconds before.

I don’t think it has to be directed when it’s off a glove does it?

That last malkin shift could have been a disaster three skaters driving to the net. A turnover would have led to a three on one break. Guess what defenseman went to the net ?

Letang getting the shot through without it being blocked yields a goal. Need more of that

To give credit where credit is due that was a really nice tippable shot by Letang. He did that really well. Letang is showing signs of life but he's still one of the best in the league at keeping both teams in the game.
