Should it not be 2 of possible 2, since we have only played 1 game here, I always read that we have lost 14 point when written that way :)

just a thought.

Just the way you look at it, I guess. There are 8 games in the segment, therefore there are 16 total points available. I typically follow my first sentence with how many possible points are left to earn in the segment.

Thread updated..... Looking more and more like WC #2 spot will be a battle between the Panthers and the Jackets, with the Panthers having 3 games in hand on Columbus. Personally hoping for the Panthers, as that is my only hope of seeing a Pittsburgh Penguins playoff game in person. :)

I would love to see a Florida/Tampa series, both because it would be great hockey, but also it would likely mean the CBJ lost out. Any Tortorella team that misses a playoff spot is ok by me.

Thread updated........Penguins are 5-4-1 in their last 10 games....need to pick up the pace, and preferably look decent on the road every once and a while.

There are also only 3 (maybe 4) playoff teams that have sub .500 road records, the Penguins being one of them.

Pens, Minnesota, Dallas, Colorado, and CBJ all currently in playoffs with negative road records. Washington one game ahead of .500 on the road.
Florida is also below .500 on the road, should they claw their way into a playoff spot.

Pens have a better goal differential than the rest of the Metro playoff teams, combined.

So right now we are at 50 out of the needed 50 points through segment 5, with two games to go. :thumb:

I guess the Pens magic number is "17" points?
17 points would give them 104, which would exceed the max totals possible for Fla, CBJ and Philly.

Thread updated......Penguins need to pick up their pace. Starting to look like they peaked too soon.

5 of their last 9 games are against Metro teams they are battling in the standings. NJ twice, PHI once, WSH once, CBJ once.
Other 4 games are MTL twice, DET once, OTT once.

Need big efforts in all of those Metro games.

Thread updated. Penguins are currently 2 points ahead of the pace I set with the segments, with 52 points earned (And 50 needed by this point).

NJD max points now 100, any combination of 12 points won by the Pens and lost by the Devils secures a playoff spot.
If we are able to match wins with Washington the rest of the way (while avoiding the need for shootouts) AND beat them April 1, we take the Metro. So we are in control of our fate.

Probably Devils and Panthers fighting for spot 8 based on remaining schedules.

Can't believe Florida has to play Boston 3 times in the last 9 days of the regular season. Who does these schedules?

IIRC, the last one is a make-up game that was snowed out earlier in the season.

I really hate to ask this but at this point what is the magic number of points we need to clinch?

8?
Florida's max is 99. Jersey's max is 100. If we get to 100 we're in over Florida, for certain, or any points that Florida loses towards it's max potential.

Love it! The NHL will probably give this scheduler a raise. What a complete :slug:

They are saying at the arena that if the Pens win tonight they are in. Florida lost today.
Florida can't pass Pens in ROW, so Pens would win the tiebreaker.
