Postby Steve Dave on Sun Feb 18, 2018 4:47 pm

Of the 6 Penguins teams that have made it to the Cup Finals, who would win in the matchups below:

91’ vs 92’

08’ vs 09’

16’ vs 17’

Maybe I'm forgetting something, but I feel like all 3 are kind of easy decisions: '92 over '91, '09 over '08, and '16 over '17.

I agree.

Yep.
Then 2016 beats 2009 and loses to 1992.

Lol, you beat me to it. I figured the same but I didn’t have a lot of access to the 91’/92’ teams. I was going to ask who the best of the 3 winners would be. What about the loser bracket? 91’ come out on top?

'91 beats '09, yes. And I think '91 beats '17. But '17 beats both '08 and '09. Sid is a much more complete player now, and Kessel.

I think 09 beats 17. Better d corps and Crosby and Malkin were in their primes. 17 held on by the skin of their teeth and I don't think they would've been able to withstand peak 87 and 71 dominating possession.

Wonder if Philly fans have a conversation like this? Eh, probably not as none of them are still alive that saw them win a cup :)

They could just pick random teams and end with "which team broke our heart worse" or "which team was closer to overcoming bad goaltending" or "how we almost pummeled our way to almost winning the cup"

I’m happy to say I was born after their last Cup win.

1993 would have beaten them all, even with no Cup.
