Not surprised though I think he deserved some sort of punishment.

If you look at this view of it, Wilson never established a position that would lead you to believe he was going to square up on Dumo. He was always coming in on the right side of him from behind, the head was the only point of contact, and he lead with the shoulder. I dont know what his intent was but it was reckless.

Wilson actually turns into Dumo and raises the only arm/shoulder that could come into contact with Dumo. I know these plays happen so fast but he can't say he was bracing for Ovechkin when he actually changed course into Dumo and closer to Ovechkin's path.

As for Ovechkin he seems to have actually let up on that hit a bit, but what is the point in holding your stick in the air like that when throwing a body check?

He didn’t get a call either last series when they double teamed wenberg in the same exact way. The only way this will stop is if someone is lucky enough to move and this ass clown takes out ovechkin or he gets taken out by Ovi, preferably those two destroy each other.

On most of Ovechkin's hits his stick is in the air and his blades are off the ice.

Wilson is responsible for his hit regardless of his intent - at least that's what they keep saying if not enforcing.

The Caps aren't the dirtiest bunch in DC but they do give Congress a run for its (our) money.

Like a safety and linebacker missing the wide receiver hit and hurting each other. Too bad Dumoulin didn't have a second set of eyes and dove right before the hit.

You have to wonder if they are vague with these suspensions because they want to lay as much blame on the victim as they can. With a probably class action lawsuit coming, the last thing they want to do is show they're aware of a problem.

SO the message here is that head shots are OK as long as you kinda make it look like an accident. I just saw the Wenberg hit for the first time. How they let that go without suspension is beyond me. He left his feet and got a charging penalty in game. Shoulder right in the head.

The explanation by EJ Hradek, a so-called hockey expert on Nhl Network, that it was Dumo's fault for bracing for the hit with Ovechkin is a primary example of the idiocy that is this league.
Remember when Steckel accidently hit Sid?
It is always an accident with these chumps.
In addition they chastised Letang for his comment because he has been suspended for hits.

This one was nice too, remember it?

That attack should have been a+5 game suspension - a gutless and incredible reckless play!

That hit on Wennberg was nasty. Can't believe there was no suspension.

“For four years, five years, you just go out there, you play your game … And then this thing happens in the pre-season — an interference call — and now you’re playing with a bit of a record now and it’s maybe a little bit tougher, but that’s part of the sport.” - Tom Wilson after his second suspension (boarding St. Louis's Sam Blais) within a two (2) week period.

If Matt Cooke had given that hit back in the day, they would have given him the electric chair.

Caps might need to be reminded that payback can come in different ways. If another hit comes like the Dumo one from Wilson, since the NHL won't police things... maybe this could happen to Wilson.

I'm not saying and eye for an eye, but justice was not served here, even a little bit, the opposite seems to be happening, blame Dumo

This video is an ugly reminder of what the lovely game of hockey can become when there is no justice and Oleksiak

This is a very good example. Oleksiak was suspended for that hit and rightfully so. Same sort of situation as with Wilson. Oleksiak's took the wrong angle to the offensive player and the head became the main point of contact. Same exact thing with Wilson. The intent can be argued, but the checking player needs to be held responsible for dangerous hits like this.

Most likely, before the cup is hoisted that hit will happen again and the offending player will be suspended.

Fun fact. The player safety guy, George Parros, had 2.3 minutes of penalties per game in his career compared to Tom Wilson’s 2.0 minutes per game.

The league only kind-of-sort-of cares, the best revenge will be to make Wilson go through the handshake line a third straight May as a loser.

More broad and longer term revenge will be dished out in the courtrooms with the NHL...

I used to think they had a Random Justice Generator TM but it appears less than random and tilted toward goonery and the support of the players' trial lawyers.

Maybe the retired players are working a long con to lock up a win in the concussion case.

The Pens can't get suckered into trying to making this a physical payback thing. The best payback would be on the scoreboard and sending the dirty ass Caps onto the golf course once again.

Oleksiak is already in Sullivan's doghouse. If he tries to do something even remotely physical Sullivan will probably just scratch him next game.
