The influence of "Luck":

I'll agree that the Pens were also a tired and injured bunch, but the Caps also had injuries. I'll say this, if there was a statistic for hit pipes, I think the Pens would lead the league in both the regular season and the playoffs.

2016 we outworked every single team every single shift.
2017 we out lucked every single team every single game.
2018 we were outworked and out lucked. Simple as that.

Murray's glove side is pedestrian. Hit the wall. Kessel, Geno, Brass too hurt to be effective.
Sprong should have played.

Didn't want to start a thread for this, but Pens-Caps four years in a row wouldn't be a shocker. We have at least two more years of the current playoff format.

This article is a month old but it's a fairly quick read:

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nhl/2018/04/08/nhl-playoff-format/33658777/

Pens-Caps was the de facto conference championship the past two seasons, and Bolts-Bruins felt that way to me this year.

Having one of Nashville-Winnipeg out after two rounds isn't necessarily great, either.

I'd like to see them scrap the divisions, stick with two conferences and just go 1-8 with seeding in each.

I think I'm fine with the format. Rivalries, presumably, help the league attract attention. And not much better way to create a rivalry than running into each other every year in the postseason.
