Bellerive giving Vandervlis a hug yesterday afternoon (you can see a wrap on Bellerive's left thigh and left hand/wrist, likely indicating burns there).

Also, don't know the accuracy or the severity of the burns (2nd, 3rd....or worse), but I have seen a few unconfirmed reports that Vandervlis has burns covering 50% of his body. I'd take an educated guess that they are 3rd degree burns, and the reason for the medically induced coma. Typically, once you get to 50% or over with 3rd degree burns, your survival rate is very low. Long road ahead for Vandervlis, but the fact that he is out of his coma and communicating is a good start.

Calen Addison told me his Lethbridge teammate, Penguins prospect Jordy Bellerive, started riding a stationary bike yesterday. "He’s improved a lot. He’ll be ready to go soon," Addison said. "He’s healing quick, so that's good."
