Phil's Ironman Streak

Postby Penspal on Thu Oct 04, 2018 12:25 pm

The Montreal Canadiens sat defenceman Karl Alzner (as a healthy scratch) last night, ending his 622 game Ironman streak.

Apparently, Alzner had not missed a game since the beginning of the 2010-11 season.

Alzner was the guy behind Phil in terms of consecutive games played. Phil has has 692 consecutive games played.

Just found it curious that Cogliano got stopped last year, Alzner this year... Maybe its setting things up for the Pens to sit Phil at some point.... :pop:

Cogliano got screwed with a horrible suspension. Scratching Alzner seems bizarre looking at how bad that team is.

It’s clear though by now if Phill can get on and off the bench he’s playing. He will never be a healthy scratch against his own wishes.

Your right, I stand corrected on Cogliano... I could envision Phil being forced to sit if Medical Staff says so... Can't imagine that the Pens brass would allow him to limp into the playoffs, not after last year. Now, if it happens, it would likely be the last games for Phil in a Penguin uniform as he wants to play no matter what. Purely a philosophical discussion at this early stage of the season.
