According to DK's site, in both his Insider and Grind pieces, it would appear to be a foregone conclusion that Sprong's days as a Penguin are very numbered.

-- Once source indicated Sprong might have been dealt already, but that it wouldn't send a message to a team. Hagelin was dealt first, because, that WAS a deal to send a message to the the team. Sprong wouldn't have had that type of effect on the locker room like dealing Hagelin did.

-- Not sure Sprong will play another game for the Penguins at this point. There is already plenty of tape on him, and sending him out there now could produce more "bad tape" on him, according to one source. Source also says they are aggressively trying to trade him, and aren't going to risk him getting injured in a game. Source also said there is a notion that Sprong may end up being a "4-A" player....a guy who can tear up the AHL, but his deficiencies are too great for the NHL. If he doesn't improve, that's exactly what he will be according to the source.

-- Sounded like Sprong thought he was going to play last night.

Was Strome mentiomed in this thread? He was traded for Ryan Spooner at 900k retention.

Good trade by NY.

At first I thought it said Sprong got traded for Spooner.

If the team were playing even half decent right now, then you could kind of justify easing Sprong into the lineup on a 4th line and then jumping him up on a top line when there's an injury or some other opportunity presents itself.

But the fact that, even with the team playing so poorly at this point with so few guys scoring at all and they are still not willing to give an extended look to the team's #1 scoring prospect? That's a striking indictment of the whole organization, from JR on down. That says to me that the organization is in very poor shape for a couple of years from now when the current stars are in the twilight of their careers.

Regardless of the return and how his career turns out, I will always wonder what he would have looked like in the top 6 here.
