The rest this summer might have been a good thing.

Simon just tried that same pass again to Crosby.

The team defense has been all on the same page for the most part. Biggest improvement lately has been the breakouts where the forwards aren’t leaving the zone before possession.

Could tell from the start of this game that Geno was ticked off he didn't score in Calgary. He's been great

Of course I still don’t think we are even for giving them zubov for Hatcher. Maybe one more lopsided trade.

Wanted to compliment DeSmith's play all night but didn't want to jinx his S. O. bid. Nice game Mr. DeSmith.

Slow start but not much to complain about in this one. Solid games for everyone. Minutes were spread out well. Sidney still knows how to score. That malkin guy is pretty good. Team D was very good tonight. Swept the trip. Building some confidence and some chemistry. Should win the next two vs the isles.

Yup, good win tonight. They weren’t bleeding shots and scoring chances all night long. A step in the right direction.

Just watched the 3rd period this morning on my DVR. Spong looked like he fit in with Geno for that shift. Guy looked good there and set up a pretty goal. I'd be down with some more Sprong with Malkin. Suppose it's worth some looks.

One shift doesn't prove much. The goal was nice, but that's nothing to base your lines on. Besides, what would you saddle Kessel with?

Simon and Cullen? Grant and Sheahan? I think such thought experiments would rock the boat far too much. Giving someone the odd shift in the top 6 isn't too bad though, allows some guys to sit out a shift.

Something you should be thinking about when up by 2.

The way Geno was playing last night, Shane Endicott would have looked like a star on his line.

True, but given their first shift together resulted in a goal, I'm just curious to see the combination again at some point if the circumstances are right. It'll obviously be great if sprong gets going so we have another contirbutor on the cheap for awhile.

Nice passes for sure but it's against Vancouver. I think both Sprong and Simon have more skill than Rust. Id much rather see them get time in the top 6 to try and get things going than Rust.

I still feel like Cullen is a wasted spot in the lineup. When Brassard is healthy I want Cullen to sit a few.

That's one thing Sprong has going for him. He'll be cheap for two seasons and we can expect him to be cheap again after those. Or at least, if his value goes up and he sticks, the cap hit would still be very manageable.

Now Guentzel on the other hand...
