On a team full of disappointments Guentzel might be the biggest right now.

On the plus side, I think the Pearson-Malkin-Hornqvist line looks good. Though, I guess whatever line has Malkin would automatically look the best with Crosby and Brassard out.

As of now I believe we do. Don’t bank on them keeping it !

I'm not as worried about retaining the 1st round pick. You have to actually hit on draft picks, and, I'm of the ilk that the Penguins scouting and drafting is pretty poor. You aren't going to have as high of a chance of success where they pick, but you got to hit on some of them. They rarely do. And then, you have the whole attitude by Sullivan that players need to bend over backwards and jump through hoops to get the right playing time, unless you were one of his guys.

I'm ok with trading away the 1st round pick when Rutherford has a strong history of acquiring former 1st rounders via trade. Under Rutherford, the following former 1st round picks have been acquired by the Penguins:

David Perron
Ian Cole
Phil Kessel
Riley Sheahan
Jamie Oleksiak
Derick Brassard
Tanner Pearson

Is Jake making $4M a goal? I don't think he's even close to the biggest disappointment

Jack Johnson is currently a team worst 26% possession. He was middle of the road this game while paired with Letang. Since being removed he’s dropped to dead last. Letang propping him up as per usual.

This team needs depth and young legs. A young Rust Sheary, Tommy K was key. What’s funny is Sully let those guys play. Because they were his guys in WBS. Now the going guys don’t play as much.

This team needs a shot !

But this team has fallen into the trap for to long of letting the stars win games for them. They need to play more as a team to win. Sully has his work cut out for him.

You have a 42 year old that stunk last year and it was no secret. Odds are great that he isn’t rebounding here at that age. You have Grant that just isn’t that good. You have Sheahan who isn’t close to what he was last year. Rust stinks, Hagelin stunk. Sprong wasn’t put into too many situations to succeed considering the leashes others received. Johnson isn’t good and some refuse to accept it. Losing Schultz and Brassard hurts.

I’m not sure this is playing as a team thing but more of a we don’t have much depth thing.

Agree but what is crazy was all the talk from the media and fans at how this is the deepest the Pens have been in a few years..... it looked that way on paper for sure

Even Rutherford thought that. Guys have to produce and play up to their expectations, however, and a good half dozen or more have not.

That's OK if it's like last year until close to the all star break where he turned it on all the way and through the playoffs once again.

The numbers don’t agree at all. The first two periods had them at putrid levels.

He's 4th on the team in scoring behind 3 future hall of famers.

Yeah it’s like when LA re-acquired Scuderi and paired him with Doughty. All that did was mask the weakness. Seems like Sullu and JR are not on the same page . JR said Sprong would be a top 9 forward this year etc.

Letang again can’t put the puck on a tee. Rarely can.

I’m not sure if this can be quantified. But I agree. Recchi seems like a Sully yes man. Winning 2 cups allows that I suppose.

It's unreal Malkin is ready to shoot and Letang passes it in his skates

I often wonder if he has a vision problem? He hits shinpads directly in front of him, can't make a setup pass to save his life. Maybe he's just blind?
