Ok. The title of this poll is “who will be the next one to go” not who “should” be...so I voted accordingly...the healthy scratch tonight for Sprong tells you all you need to know...DK and Mackey are right and they must be looking to move Sprong ASAP because they won’t even give him another shot with all our depth scoring problems and the losses piling up...I don’t think he should be traded and this organization has thrown away too many young guys over the last couple years when we don’t have a great pool to draw from. Shouldn’t be traded but will be

Sorry for the confusion. The poll is for who you think will be next Pen traded. Then in the message section discuss who you think should be the next to go. If you wish.

Think Sprong will definitely be the next to go. Maatta not far behind him or goes at the same time.

It's kind of hard to pick against Sprong if the question is "who will be traded next?", right? They clearly don't think he has a role here. That said, I don't know if it makes sense to trade Sprong by himself--that probably wouldn't net anything other than a draft pick. I'd imagine he'd be more likely to go as part of another deal.

Riley Sheahan.

For all the Brassard bashing -- of which there is plenty -- I do believe he's an equally big problem at C. No secondary scoring near Sheahan. When he gets posted on a line these days, it's as LW on what amounts to a fourth line. Where Brassard occasionally played wing with Crosby, Sheahan's stuck being Cullen's LW. Sheahan represents some trade value, not as much as Brassard, but he still has a little more rope to work with. And Brassard's potential value/salary situation is much better.

Sprong? Maybe if a package is needed for something and someone out there really wants him. I'd be surprised if he leaves before january, though. Don't want to see him leave, but if it is the only way to get him out of the dog house, fine. Guess Sullivan is compensating for not putting Sheary there all of last season.

Jack Johnson is not going to get traded. People REALLY need to move on from that.

I tend to agree. But, if Eric Tangradi can get traded, ANYONE can get traded.

JJ isn't getting traded because no other gm in the entire league is insane enough to take that contract. I guarantee people laughed their asses off across the nhl when they signed him to that.

I’m going with Rust. He’d bring the biggest return with his cost contained contract and history of big game performances. Pens simply can not afford to trade D.

Who is this D you speak of ? I'd like to get him on the ice and see what he can do. He can't be any worse than anyone else out there.

It's a shame that we let a lot of decent Dmen leave the team and now have this **** of a defense in front of our goalies. Someone from Wilkes-Bare has to be better than Maatta. He is who I voted for. This D needs fixed or this team might as well have a huge fire sale, and begin a bit of a rebuild. Not so sure Rutherford can handle the job though. His decisions since becoming GM has been more bad than good. But I think Sully's attitude needs adjusted too. Last year I thought Cole was our best defenseman, yet he was shipped out because he had a falling out with Sullivan. Not looking good from those two aspects!

Should and will are totally Different criteria. Maatta has value and a relatively high cap hit. He will be the big part of any deal that’s simply not trading spare parts.

Ok, i’ll revise my comment, a D could go out as part of a larger deal. But they’d obviously need to bring a better defenseman back, which I don’t see happening in-season.

They will trade Maatta for a right handed Dman, cost controlled. It will be another hockey trade where hopefully the change of scenery works out for both players.

The team has been on a slow decline the past couple of seasons. Same can be said for the coach and GM.

Both Sully and JR have gotten away from their identity. Not having 4 lines of speed and scoring and possession. Acquiring players that don’t fit in. Trading players that did.

The coach and GM had Tocchet and Botteril as their assistants. They seemed like they were valued assistants. Something tells me that Recchi and Guerin are just yes men who listen to their immortal coach and GM that won 2 cups.

Organization as a whole needs to get back to what made them great.

If the rumors of Anaheim talks were true, maybe a Maatta/Sprong package was on the table for Manson or Montour.

Sprong has shown zero reason to be on this roster. Yet people keep putting him in the top six, assuming anyone can be productive with 87 or 71.

The Pens need to get back to 3 s oring lines and an energy 4th line. I've seen enough of Rust in the top 6 to know that isn't the answer. Sprong should at least get a shot.

Problem with Riley, Olli, Bryan - what are you getting in return that is going to turn this around?

I think if they are looking for a legit shake up it will be Kessel. I love him, but considering all of the old rumors maybe he's the one that gets moved.
