So we were just trending a couple years behind the mess the Hawks became.

I think you have to split up Malkin and Kessel. Too much lazy right now on one line.

My feed just stopped with the message “unable to play game”. Kind of harsh.

Sprong looking pretty decent tonight and not showing his usual tentativeness and puzzlement. He just moving it and not over-thinking.

The advanced stats show Letang/Dumo pair is one of the nest in the league. Why split that up so JJ plays more and exposes his weaknesses.

I like Letang and Dumo together. Fix it Sully

Imagine if the Pens had made the reported deal for Duchesne prior to last season that included Maatta plus Sprong. Not needing Brassard, they could have kept Cole, possibly the 1st round pick, Gustavsson. No need to sign Johnson on D...

Just sayin...

This is dumb, the players could actually benefit from some 5-5 play to iron out not being absolute morons.

Well, the Hagelin trade has gotten Hornqvist going.

I think they have to split Dumo and Letang up to make up for the loss of Schultz. Problem is, Johnson and Maatta drag down everyone they play with.

Cole would have been traded anyways because of Sullivan. Better would be, imagine if they gave Riikola a legit shot before signing Johnson to a FIVE YEAR DEAL!

So I turn on the game and it's 6-3 Ottawa. This team is now the laughingstock of sports. Worst team in the league and looking up with a telescope at the next worst team. Even when they get Crosby back, they'll still be terrible. Their GM brings in players and the coach doesn't know what to do with them or doesn't like them, so he doesn't play them. Lines changing constantly. No cohesion. All that speed we had two years ago -- gone. Olli Maatta, Jack Johnson -- just terrible players. Johnson will be an albatross for years. So will Murray. It apparently took several years for teams to figure out he has no glove hand. What's that, 8 regulation losses in 9 games? What a sad joke!

There are no real options to improve the defensemen, and they look even worse when the forwards make lousy decisions with the puck and turn it over constantly.

The Johnson signing never made any sense, but I fail to see how it is tied to Riikola.

The whole team is playing like they're afraid to make a mistake. Tentative, unsure, just bogging everything down. If they lose tbbuge lead, they're screwed.

I think it's 100 percent effort. The effort isn't there, the team isn't interested in winning puck battles.

Rutherford and Sullivan needs to be fired on the spot! Send JJ and Cullen to WBS - trade Maatta and Murray while they still have some value at all.

No kidding, this team is UNFIXABLE - with the contracts Murray, Maatta, JJ, Rust sits on it will be impossible to contend - its all on on the GM for locking us up long term with these contracts. It cant be fixed.

Feeling positive :-)

I miss the days where everyone would bare down a little harder when Sid was out and will the team to win. Maybe this is the embarrassing low point of the season. Monday against Buffalo is now a huge game. This team isn’t THIs bad, but they’re also not going to go on a February run that will make up for an atrocious start. Win this week or be out of the playoffs by Thanksgiving. I’d like to see what a healthy Brassard can do. And if Sullivan can assemble and maintain some lines that make sense.

They didn’t get the W, but did they find what it takes to compete? Monday against Buffalo will be a big test.

^^^^ Exactly right. Just go back and watch the third period. The Pens went into full effort mode and made a short-lived comeback attempt. They were all over the Sens. Before the third period, it was a continuation of no effort, no passion.

Was it “full effort mode” or did Ottawa let up being up 5-1? When the Pens made it 5-3, Ottawa kicks it in and scores a killer goal.
