Penguins Pre-game talk 11/19/2018 Buffalo

Penguins lines/pairs:
Pearson-Malkin-Kessel
Guentzel-Brassard-Hornqvist
Simon-Grant-Sprong
ZAR-Sheahan-Rust

Johnson-Letang
Dumoulin-Ruhwedel
Maatta-Oleksiak

Other interesting tidbits:

- Crosby skated before the team, and also attended practice, but did not take line rushes. Likely out tonight, but possibly ready for next game
- DeSmith first goalie off and likely getting the start.
- Notice a name missing the lineup tonight: Matt Cullen. I like that Sullivan has shown more of a willingness to scratch players. Sprong, Grant, Sheahan, and now Cullen. I would say Rust may be next guy to sit.
- Didn't say this last game but, one two levels, I find the Simon-Grant-Sprong line very interesting. For one, they played really well together last game. Secondly, Grant be a Crosby placeholder? If the top 2 lines tonight show signs of clicking, will Sullivan actually keep the Simon-Sprong winger combination together?
- Going back to Grant, when all the forwards are healthy, I'd probably start Grant over Cullen and Sheahan at this point. I doubt Sullivan will, but, after a slow start, sent down, and then recalled, I'm actually starting to like his game a little bit more. If Sheahan and Cullen don't snap out of their funk, they might have to start looking over their shoulder and sit in the press box for Grant.

Just elated to see Cullen scratched. This is essentially what I would run if I were in Sully's shoes.

Sprong had a great rip last game. Hope he gets more looks like that tonight.

I'd still switch Kessel and Hörnqvist around. Don't care for Phil with Geno.

Regardless.. I hope some of this clicks, because they look sensible as lines.

Even better. I'd never wish injury on someone but they're better served with literally anybody else in right now.

A good way to get the cap hit off but not publically disrespect him by waiving him or sending him down?

Just read Matt Cullen has an injury and will be missing games for an extended amount of time.

Will we even notice his absence?

We are about to find out. My money says no, and that this is the perfect way to get him out of the lineup and see how much he is "missed" when he is gone.

Yeah, what if the “lower body injury” is old, slow legs?

Or, they are just saying he's hurt so they can get him off the roster. LTIR for the rest of the season. :)
