The issue of slots comes up, and an african-american woman who coincidentally was just appointed by Rendell a month ago to advise on african american issues. States " i am very concerned that residents of the Hill district will spend their money on gambling rather than their prescriptions." Wonder if that's why she was picked? The nice thing is that all three people on the panel basically talked like the casino will be in the hill district. Oh her name is Sonya Toler i think. Watch, this will be Rendell's counter to the african american leaders of the Hill district.

If they spend their money on gambling rather than their prescriptions, then thats their own dumb fault. That should have no impact on anything.

Based on that quote I would say that she definately has a very low opinion of the residents of the Hill District. I would be insutled if I lived over there. SUggesting that somebody would value greed over their own personnel health. Who does she think she is?

Well i just put a sample of her comments. The point i was trying to make is this. Rendell will use this woman as a weapon to try to prove that a casino in the Hill will ruin these people's lives even more. Even though we all know it won't matter where it is. People will go there and spend money they should be spending feeding their families in the casino. But crucial to the Ioc plan is that the residents and community leaders of the Hill district accept it as a godsend rather than a detriment. Fast Eddie will use this woman to try to make sure this doesn't happen, just watch.

IM sure they he will, although to me there really isnt any moral highground for either side to stand on. The fact that our senior citizens would starve to death without the state lottery (aka GAMBLING) just shows how perverted the commonwealth of PA is.

What a naive woman. Residents of the Hill District will got to the casino weather it is in their front yard, Station Square, or the North Side. I don't believe that she lives there though, so she shouldn't have an influence or a say on the issue just because her skin happens to be black.

I plan on playing the slots until my 401k is empty but only if it's in the Hill. no way am I going ALL the way to Station Square. It's unsafe there :lol:

I didn't know that running a narcotics ring out of the shed in your backyard qualified you for a 401K, Spoon. Oh wait...I'm sorry...I have you confused with Rendell. I'll never do that again.

Kind of funny that this came up. I was driving home from work last night and I was listening to Tim Benz discussing the arena issues. One caller had an interesting point (especially in light of this lady's comments) and that was this:

It's ironic is it that some people - say this guy from Duquesne - express their concerns over the IoC casino being so close to Duquesne Univ. because it would tempt students to spend too much time gambling.

This, however, is the same individual who has an interest in Station Square, which for a long time housed Chauncey's. And think back to the reason why Chauncey's was shut down (it was basically a front for a rather large drug ring).

From what Benz said, Chauncey's is just the tip of the iceberg. Apparently, there's a lot more to that story than most people realize, and it'll take some time to come out. But he said there were some other restaurants and stores in the area and some other well-known people involved, and people might be awfully surprised to see some of the names that come out in this.

I'll take it for what it's worth, but I found it somewhat interesting.
