Matt Drozd sent me an E-mail asking PENS fans to come to a council meeting on February the 1st at 5:00 P.M. Here is a copy of the letter:

Good morning Jaimie: Come to our Council meeting this coming Tuesday, February 21, at 5:00 PM to support my resolution which backs the rebuilding of the Arena at no cost to the taxpayers and also reinforces our objective of keeping the Penguins in Pittsburgh. Please note that our Council does not make the decision as to who will receive licenses but we do need to publicly voice our support of proposals that will hopefully renovate a major and vital area of our County, revitalize the Arena, and keep the Penguins in Pittsburgh....all at no cost our taxpayers.

The meeting this coming Tuesday is held in the Gold room of our Courthouse on Grant Street. If you need further information on your being allowed to speak and direction to the Courthouse, please feel free to call our Council offices at 412-340-6490.....and tell/bring/send a friend.

I'm surprised he sent that after the response I received from him on 2/6/06.

Please rest assured that I share your concerns and also want to keep the Penquins in Pittsburgh. Without further analysis, you are correct that some of the proposals now on the table appear to be quite attractive.

As I am new on County Council and want to select the option that is best for the residents of Allegheny County and places no additional tax burden on our people, however, I want to do due diligence by further analyzing all and any proposals now put before us and then hopefully make a sound decision. In the meantime, thanks ever so much for your input and feel free to give me a call should you wish to discuss it in more depth.

At any rate, I view this just like the gaming board hearings...get as many people there to speak intelligently about why we should support IoC...as many people on here have said, the key is to be rational and smart...which is more valuable to the cause than spouting off garbage

Don't know what kind of speakers they are looking for:
those with the economic knowledge to discuss the IOC benefits
beyond the arena...those just passionate about hockey.

Public speaking isn't my forte'. I'll be happy to pass on to have
other penguin fans attend.
Least I can do attend since he responded to my mail.

This line worries me.

It's not about the Pens. If you make it about the Pens you stand to lose the suport of every Allegheny County resient that isn't a Pens fan (what? Maybe most?).

This is about selecting the BESt proposal for the Pittsburgh area. A proposal which revitalizes the Lower Hill and provide enormous growth potential for the Pittsburgh SW PA region as a whole.

It's about a the only proposal which entirely funds the construction of a new Multi-purpose facility to replace the 45 yearold Area.

Last and Least, it's about supporting the only proposal which currently contains an offer which the Pens have endorswd and have promised to stay in Pittsburgh if accepted.
