If the IoC wins, there's no reason to sell the team if you're the Lemieux Group. I mean, it's a guaranteed bankroll.
somebody said this all along. balsille trying to buy was just a smokescreen to put pressure. someone said this in a previous thread a long while ago. if it ever comes out that lemieux used jb to put pressure, and he winds up keeping the team, well, thats just smart on his part. not saying it happened, but...
it was me I think. Makes sense if you think about. Unethical, but sensible. Being lied to is unethical too, so I guess fair is fair.
And what would JB get out of this?

Tico Rick wrote:netwolf wrote:Maybe he simply did it as a favor to a friend. Who knows?
That's a lot of work to put in just to do a favor for a friend.

Here, here ... that bwas me. I put forth the conspiracy theory that Lemiuex brought in Balsillie to pressure everyone into giving IoC the license.

By all accounts, JB pulled his bid because of disagreements with Bettman and the league. How does that reflect badly on anyone in the Penguins' organization? They had nothing to do with it.

I love how so many people are making such such definitive statements as if anyone has ANY idea what is going on right now.
I said it before, and I'll say it again: the ride ain't over folks. Sit back and try to enjoy it.

I don't really remember that, but I disagree with it anyhow, especially with regards to stability. The IoC bid provides a new facility and guarantees the team stays put, regardless of ownership. How can you improve on that kind of stability?

If that was the plan all along, didnt they stop a few days short? I mean, couldn't the NHL and Basille just gotten together to get the ownership approved AFTER the license was awarded.
Balsille bailing just makes the Penguins look even more unorganized and unworthy.

Even if it was his intention to move the team, that makes no sense because his investment is instantly worth a lot more with the IOC the winner.
