yeah but i don't see why they were against it.. any time i went to the VA via the hill i always saw people throwing dice...

did the cfl turn him down because of where he wanted the team (ottawa)...im just asking, i dunno the whole story?

No, the franchise was going to Ottawa regardless. I really don't know why they turned him down other than they didn't really like him.

The guy got turned down by the CFL... Are you going to say that the CFL is harder to buy into than the NHL? If he got turned down by the CFL, he wont be approved by the NHL.

He wanted to rename the team to the Steelbacks.

Faith,

Don't act shocked at the troll accusations.

If the IoC lost, the last thing most of this board needed to hear was someone coming on here and saying, "I told you so." It smacks of an arrogant, condescending attitude. The future of a team in Pittsburgh that many hold dear was just thrown into question, and you should be able to appreciate the fact that many people here would be sensitive to it. So if you didn't think you'd hear backlash when you came on here and did it, you're either not very smart or you have little appreciation for what just happened.

ugh, North Shore. Forget about making downtown look better

I'm not all that savvy about law in this instance; can IOC appeal the decision? And if so, how? They were just one of a few bidding on something but nothing was promised to them. I'm not criticizing or anything; I really hope they do, if they can.

7 million per year for 20 years...but that is not really that good considering there needs to be initial investment and after that 140 mil, there still is another 150 mil that needs to be made up

7.5 mill a year for 30+ years... the Pens and state do the rest.... (ie. tax payers money and money pens don't have.)

I am having a hard time figuring out why it is "racist" to point out that Barden being a black man may have assisted his group in obtaining the slots license for Pittsburgh. Grow up, people. Afterall, it had been noted many times that many individuals in government believed it was important for racial minorities to play a prominent role in the entire slots process. If you want to blame anybody for "racist" perspectives, blame your elected officials and government as a whole for apparently essentializing race in this process. I am not suggesting that Barden's group obtained the licesnse solely because he is black, but being a black entrepreneur in Pittsburgh/America circa 2006 certainly didn't hurt his chances either.

Furthermore, I suppose Majestic Star also won because it was the least controversial, may not have had the biggest traffic congestion problems, and may have been one more bite at the let's-develop-the-North-Side apple that has been dangling there since 1970.

And remember that since these payments are over 30 years there's interest on the loan so the 290 mil arena will end up costing well over 400 million -

Slots were to reduces tax burden - so now this new arena deal that never happned for 7 years and will now be a jumble of long-term payments from various parties is going to happen over the next couple months? Good luck
