I disagree with you here. The defender got a peice of it and put the puck on edge but he didnt move it away. Whitney should have forced a shot on net, you dont get better shooting position then that and sometimes when the puck is on edge its even tougher to stop. You have to at least take a whack at it. Whitney made a rookie move by making a move there right into the other defender. He will learn.

agree NIN... atleast take a wake at it instead of trying to pull it through 4 or 5 skates...

also did anybody notice at some pt in the first crosby had an angle on a d man and tried to do his cut back... unfortunately it was right back into the d men... maybe he lost an edge or something but looked kinda weird... hope the kid is not running out of moves!

No thats fine. It doesn't happen often but its fine. Hitting a player in the corner into the boards is good defense and if a team is cycling its the best way to stop them.

But i was referring to open ice hits.

okay then... let me ask you this... if its in the open you knock a guy so hard his kids are born dizzy... and your team receives the puck or even you slow the play down enough to allow your team to reorganize...

would that be good hockey

Yeah he made a right at Albicurky. He wanted to curl and make a play but the defender went to the outside and finished him off instead of panicking and rushing back to the inside like everyone does. I havent seen enough of that defnder to be sure but I think he just guessed right.

k... just worried me that the kid is going to do that to often... i agree though... could have been a lucky guess! I just know that i have seen sid do that numerous times... i thought he had an angle is all... none the less ... long live the kid! 8)

Ziggy, good NHL defensemen play well positionally FIRST (I agree it is the most important thing) and play physical AS WELL. Even the ever polite Lidstrom knows the value of finishing a check! It is ESSENTIAL. Melichar is built like a tank and it wouldnt take much for him to step into a guy to stop his progress and recover the puck.

Players that are BAD at checking or excersise poor judgement or are insane (Kaspar) and do it all the time no matter what look bad. Orpik is becomming a very dependable well rounded blueliner. WHAT A BACKHAND SHOT!

Good stick by Recchi on that PK. He might have saved a goal on that cross ice pass. Nice block by Kolt too. :D

"stepping into someone" isn't common, and there is a reason for that.

I'm not claiming that Melichar is a great defenseman, just that he's sound positionally and is without a doubt that most consistant defender on this team. And that is sad because he's only a second pairing guy on a good team.

Well we have an understand n'at so lets just enjoy the game, and try to find things that ARENT flaws.

thats so very hard to do with this team though.

Colby isn't a flaw.
Sid isn't a flaw.
Scuds isn't a flaw.
Melichar isn't a flaw.

 I would scratch Melichar off that list! Everybody has flaws by the way, even Crosby.
