Postby Henry Hank on Wed May 02, 2007 9:50 pm

4-2 Final. Game 2 is Friday in Hershey, and then the series moves to Wilkes-Barre on Saturday for Game 3.

Wilkes-Barre came out really flat in the first 2 periods and coughed up some bad turnovers.

The other side of the coin is that, in the 3rd period, they controlled the game. Wilkes-Barre had this same problem in a couple of the Norfolk games.

The thought here is that Hershey was more rested and came out stronger. If that is the reason, expect game 2 to be more even.

EPF, why is Kennedy out? I went to the game looking forward to seeing our prospects, but all I saw was a whole lot of Edmonton property. Filewich and Stone did not look very sharp, but I was pretty impressed with Wallace and Dupont

Kennedy's been out the last few months with an abdominal injury. It just hasn't been healing quickly and from what I understand has been pretty frustrating for him.

As a Pittsburgh fan it's hard for me to care too much about what the Baby Pens are doing because the large majority of the team is made up of Edmonton talent and non-prospects. The few prospects the Pens have down there are likely bottom line depth guys in the NHL. The only exception in my eyes is Filewich who seems like he could be a top six forward, but even that isn't for certain. He may end up as another bottom liner too. Kennedy seemed to have showed promise but unfortunately he's been out. I was also hoping to see Letang but he's doing quite well in his own playoffs.

Well put.

Every year, I'm very passionate about this team, but I know what you mean. The guys who are carrying this team are mostly either Edmonton guys or guys who are not legitimate prospects. Of the players still on this team from Pittsburgh, Filewich and Stone are the only ones playing that look even close to holding regular jobs for the NHL.

You have to understand, too, that because Wilkes-Barre is a perennial winner and Pittsburgh has been going through rebuilding seasons, this team has been raided. Over the last 2 years, Pittsburgh has called up Army, Ouellet, Christensen, DuPont, Talbot, Whitney, Fleury, Nasreddine and Scuderi have spent time with Wilkes-Barre. EC, Talbot, and Nasreddine even started this year in Wilkes-Barre.

Kennedy was having an awesome year and still was named team rookie of the year even though he only played 40 games. I am very interested to see what he will do next year.

Game 2 is in OT right now. WBS blew a 3-0 lead, 3-1 going into the third period. If they let this one slip away, I'd be shocked if they recover. I don't see them coming back from 2-0 against Hershey after blowing such a lead. We'll see. Hopefully, they pull this one out.

If not for Schaefer, this game would be over by now, and Hershey would be up 2-0 already.

Yes, in game 1, Schaefer kept the score from getting ugly. Hershey's got some offensive firepower and he's kept them from running wild. I'd like to see him get his shot as a backup next year.

Nothing like being down 3-0... Letang couldn't come in time for this team.

Letang's junior team is currently down 2-0 in the QMJHL Finals. Things not going so well for Pens' prospects at the moment. On the bright side, in the World Championships, Malkin is doing pretty well as Team Russia is undefeated. Gonchar's on the team as well. Armstrong and Staal haven't done much for Canada, but they're undefeated as well.
