History of Pens minor league system

Not sure if this goes under Pens, or Pens Affiliates section, so feel free to move, but does anyone have a brief history of the Pens minor league affiliations?

I remember the Russian Penguins of the 80's, the Lumberjacks, and the Muskegon line of the first stanley cup, so I'm guessing we had a minor league team there. But I don't remember, or let alone paid attention until recently of the Pens minor league affiliates.

When did we hook up with WBS and the Nailers?

WBS came into existence for the 99 season. The Nailers were just before that.

Before the Baby Pens, the Pens sent some prospects to the Syracuse Crunch in the AHL as part of a split affiliation.

Baltimore in the early 90's (lumberjacks) however I don't think they really controlled the team as much as they do the baby-pens etc.

It feels like we've been had WBS as our affilate forever, but it's only been 8 years. Funny how we switched so many times. I remember Muskegon, Cleveland, Johnstown, and WBS.

I believe that the Pittsburgh club actually OWNS WBS. In those other cases I believe they just had "agreements". I rememeber reading that the baby pens are one of a handful of minor clubs that actually generate revenue for the big club. Not sure about Wheeling though.

Ahhh, yes, the Johnstown years. I remember Pittsburgh assigned quite a few players here that refused to report. I'll have to go through hockeydb to see if I can remember the names.
