Non elite playoff QB, if flacco is getting what he did, sounds like a bargain.

Alex Smith makes Joe Flacco look like Dan Marino plus a Super Bowl. I don't care how many tricks Reid has hidden under his belly or how much he tries to hide his deficiencies, when the games matter most Alex Smith is never gonna get it done.

Yeah i think flacco is pretty close to worthless but id rather have him than smith. This guaranteed money is on par with qbs with 6 or more year contracts that are way better.

Just hope he doesn't have to throw more than 10 yards.

Im sure espn and all the pro gay groups are already foaming at the mouth to blow this WAY out of proportion.

After listening to the First Take crew talk about a 7th round draft pick being cut and who will pick him up for 20 minutes now, I long for the day that a player's sexual orientation is not a big deal.

What were the Chiefs gonna do? Let his deal expire and sign another franchise QB since they're so easy to find?

What do you mean by "another" franchise QB?

Watching ESPN was your first mistake. Watching First Take was your second. That network is useless.

That Alex Smith is now an irreplaceable franchise QB pretty much says all you need to know about the value of QBs these days.

Smith > EJ Manuel at this time easily. Smith has turned into a good middle of the road starter. He's not a franchise guy, but he won't lose you games most nights at this point of his career.

Is/was Alex Smith markedly worse than Blaine Gabbert?

I don't think I could say that in good faith.

I'd also like to nominate Chad Henne. Same completion numbers (literally, almost the exact same), but Smith had 27-9 compared to Henne's 13-14 TD-INT.

To answer my own inquiry, I'd rate Manuel slightly lower than Geno Smith...but the difference is not huge at this point...Alex Smith doesn't belong in this discussion...he's not the bottom of the barrel...he's not any good, but he's not in this tier...

Alex Smith? He's not great but I think you're overstating it a bit here.

People saying Alex Smith is awful is very entertaining. It's like saying Sam Jackson isn't a good actor because he hasn't won an Oscar yet. Okay, he doesn't deserve consideration to be in the top 6 or 7 QBs in the league, and he's not really a deep ball threat..... but he's not trash.

I think people are confusing Geno with Alex and vice versa in this thread.
